Cowboys’ Parsons Buys Mom New Home in Dallas – Cowboys Staff, Sports Illustrated

The rookie LB made a promise to his mother — and kept it.

The Cowboys’ 2021 first-round pick out of Penn State, who will get $17 million guaranteed over his four-year rookie deal (including a $9 million signing bonus and a team option for Year 5), used some of that money to purchase his mother a brand new home in the Dallas area.

Parsons, 22, posted a short video loop on his Instagram account Saturday evening of him and his mother, Sherese, in front of the beautiful home. The video included the caption, “Welcome mom this. All for you.”

In a conversation with BroBible before the draft, Parsons spoke about the importance of giving back to his mother, who sacrificed so much for him as a child, which oftentimes meant having to move around a lot.

“I want to finally get my own house, clear my mom’s debt, I moved a lot when I was younger and if I could put me and my mother into our own home and have something to call ours, it would be amazing.”

It shouldn’t be hard to guess who the two player are in this ranking.

There was only one player who received a higher ranking, and that was DT Aaron Donald, who gets the “unique” category all to himself. That not only recognizes just how great he is, it is also an admirable use of the word.

Martin’s return is part of the reason that hopes are up for the performance of Dallas’ offensive line. The other parts are named Tyron Smith, La’el Collins, and Tyler Biadasz, all of whom missed much or all of the season. This made them basically ineligible for this ranking. If all are indeed healthy, it could bode very well indeed, and had he not gone out himself Smith would probably have cracked this list somewhere since he received honorable mention at the end.

Lawrence has been a bit mischaracterized over the last two seasons largely due to his sack numbers dipping. When you contrast his raw numbers from the 2019-2020 seasons (11.5 sacks) with his 2017-2018 seasons (25 sacks) it is understandable for people to think that he is no longer a dynamic, very good edge player, rather in the ‘good/above average’ tier. It’s important to understand the various changes that the Dallas defense has undergone during that timeframe relative to coaching changes that have impacted what Lawrence’s responsibilities are as a player.

The outcome of the defensive battles at camp is sure to intriguing.

Free safety Damontae Kazee figures to man the free safety position as long as his recovery from a major knee injury doesn’t derail his progress. His recovery is crucial as there doesn’t seem to be a free safety like him on the roster.

Donovan Wilson is probably hoping that a new number change can significantly increase the numbers in his bank account. Most would figure Wilson to be the starter at strong safety but I would also pencil him in as the backup free safety.

I know Dallas has traditionally employed safeties that play interchangeable roles but I think that has more to do with need rather than want. Kazee is probably the closest safety we have all been asking for for years but I think Wilson is currently the best choice for second place.

More about the defensive battles at camp, concentrating on the defensive line.

Some of these players are easier to predict than others just based on money a draft position. Dallas just spent 3rd-round picks on Chauncey Golston and Osa Odighizuwa, making them virtual locks for the roster at least in their rookie seasons. Free agent Brent Urban got a fully-guaranteed $1.75 million contract to join the Cowboys this year; far better security than Carlos Watkins received.

Tarell Basham hasn’t been a sack machine thus far in the NFL but he’s the one veteran addition the team made at defensive end. He’s also one of the few 2021 free agents to get more than just a one-year deal; a good sign for his job security for at least this first season.

Leaving Dorance Armstrong off the roster isn’t easy given his experience and occasional flashes as a pass rusher. But this is the DE’s fourth season and there are shinier new toys in the fold now with years left on their cheap rookie contracts.

The situation between Odighizuwa, Neville Gallimore, and Trysten Hill as young DT prospects is very intriguing. How much loyalty do the Cowboys still feel to Hill after two years and two changes at defensive coordinator? Have either he or Gallimore really shown enough to have benefit of the doubt now?

While only a 6th-round rookie, Quinton Bohanna sounds like exactly what the Cowboys have needed in a true space-eating DT for their run defense. But 32 teams allowed Bohanna to fall far in the last draft; are we overestimating his value thanks to typical post-draft recency bias?

Dallas Cowboys 53-man roster prediction 2021 (training camp edition) – Reid Hanson, Sport DFW

Seven cornerbacks making the roster? That seems a bit heavy.

Cornerbacks (7) Trevon Diggs, Anthony Brown, Jourdan Lewis, Kelvin Joseph, Nahshon Wright, C.J. Goodwin, Maurice Canady

The cornerback position isn’t in great shape heading into the season. They have talent to be sure, but it’s undeveloped talent which means the Dallas Cowboys will have to be patient with their green position group. To properly do that they’ll have to go deep.

For better or for worse, Diggs is CB1. He showed enough late last season to indicate he’s up to the task so we head into camp with our fingers crossed and not many options otherwise. CB2 is going to be a battle between Anthony Brown and Kelvin Joseph.

Brown isn’t ideal but neither is an extremely inexperienced rookie. Rookie CBs rarely play well and usually go through a ton of growing pains. Diggs was actually a positive anomaly and we shouldn’t expect the same from Joseph or fellow rookie, Nahshon Wright.

Speaking of Wright, he looked great in minicamp and could be an immediate contributor in those Cover 3 looks outside. If Brown starts the season outside at CB2 (which we kinda expect), Lewis will start inside at slot.

Maurice Canady gets the inside track here if Joseph struggles. He’s a veteran with outside ability and will serve as an insurance policy. If, of course, Joseph claims that starting gig, Canady becomes expendable. But all of that will need to be proven so for now we slate Canady.

C.J. Goodwin is a virtual lock simply because he’s a special teams ace. On the outside is Reggie Robinson. He’ll have to prove himself convincingly in camp to get a roster spot because there just isn’t room.
