Daniel Jeremiah releases final mock ahead of 2024 NFL Draft

NFL Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network has released his final 2024 NFL mock draft just a day out from the start of Round 1. With the 20th overall pick, he projected the Pittsburgh Steelers to draft Oklahoma offensive tackle prospect Tyler Guyton. He writes:

Cornerback is in play here, but the Steelers continue down the road they chose last year by upgrading the offensive line. Guyton and 2023 first-rounder Broderick Jones are two extremely athletic and agile big men who will anchor the O-line.

After a slow start to his collegiate career at TCU, Guyton transferred to OU in the 2022 season with starts at both right and left tackle. Most of his reps have come on the right side of the line, however, which would give the Steelers a relatively smooth path to sliding 2023 first round pick Broderick Jones back to his natural position at left tackle.

Coming in at just under 6’8 and 322 pounds Guyton has elite length and plenty of size for the tackle position, with athleticism that pops off the page. That athleticism showed out at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, too, with a 5.19 second 40-yard dash (66th percentile for OT, per MockDraftable) in addition to a 34 1/2” vertical jump (97th) and a 107” broad jump (70th).

As BTSC contributor Ryland Bickley notes, “Tyler Guyton is a strong, athletic right tackle prospect who lacks ideal experience and technique. If he can improve his footwork and hand placement a bit at the next level, he’ll be starting material. If he cleans up his leverage, he could be a Pro Bowler.”

The consensus is that Guyton has all the traits to become a high-upside tackle in the league. The only question is, do the Steelers know how to develop him? It seems fair question to ask after former Steelers OL Kevin Dotson had a career year in his first season with the Rams after being traded ahead of the roster cut deadline in 2023. Then there’s the failed Kendrick Green and Mason Cole experiments. Recent history considered, one could argue the Steelers might opt for a more polished option at right tackle in this draft, even if they lack the high-end ceiling of a prospect like Guyton. Regardless, they’ll soon find out how the board will fall.
