Who will Rams turn to if Henderson can’t return to the game?

The LA Rams are already down three running backs this season, but Darrell Henderson was helped off the field in the fourth quarter against the Indianapolis Colts with an unknown injury. Henderson had 13 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown at the time, as well as three catches for 29 yards.

Per the team, Henderson is questionable to return with a rib injury.

After the game, Sean McVay had no updates on Henderson’s status and it is unknown if he could miss any time. However, linebacker Justin Lawler reportedly suffered a broken hand and that could land him on injured reserve with a prolonged absence. If Henderson misses any time, look for Sony Michel and Jake Funk to share the backfield against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Michel got 10 carries in place of Henderson, while Funk had zero but took some snaps.

The first running back on the field after Henderson left was seventh round rookie Jake Funk out of Maryland. Funk stood by Matthew Stafford on third down and Van Jefferson dropped a would-be first down catch. On the punt attempt, the snap hit Nick Scott and went into the Rams end zone for a Colts touchdown, giving Indianapolis a 21-17 lead early in the fourth quarter.

So the Rams are going to need all the offensive help that they can get in the fourth quarter of the game.

We did not see Sony Michel immediately, but the veteran trade acquisition from the New England Patriots saw a couple of snaps in Week 1 and could be called upon if Henderson can’t return. Michel was the first back on the field on the ensuing drive after Henderson was helped into the locker room.
