Will the Rams RB miss any games because of his rib injury?

The LA Rams lost Darrell Henderson to injury on Sunday against the Colts, the extent of which was only known to be in the area of Henderson’s ribs, and Sean McVay provided an update — of sorts — on Monday.

McVay told reporters that Henderson has a “rib cartilage” injury and that the Rams will monitor his pain and health on Friday to determine his status for Week 3’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Rams signed RB Javian Hawkins to the practice squad on Monday in a move that may or may not be related.

McVay expressed “hope” and “optimism” that Henderson wouldn’t miss a game.

Henderson left the game against the Indianapolis Colts right around the changeover from the third to the fourth quarter and was replaced by Sony Michel and Jake Funk. Michel had 10 carries for 46 yards in his absence, while Funk took a few snaps and had zero carries. Michel had 10 carries on only 16 snaps, so his presence on the field was essentially just to rush the ball, not to pass block or receive, at least in this particular game situation in Indianapolis.

However, with the New England Patriots, this was also similar to the role that Michel played and his played on passing downs may have helped facilitate his trade out of New England.

An extensive rib cartilage injury could either be too painful to play through (the ribs expand when exercising, breathing heavily) and could keep Henderson out for several weeks, or it could be manageable.
