Week 2’s Monday Night Football matchup has some interesting propositions.

Primetime football for a clash of NFC North rivals is just around the corner.

The Detroit Lions head to Lambeau Field for a divisional matchup against the Green Bay Packers, each team vying to put a mark in their win column. And while these two teams are both looking to get their season headed in better directions, there’s also you, reader, potentially looking to do some winning of your own on Monday night.

This leads us to today’s Question of the Day:

What’s your best bet in Lions-Packers?

Taking inspiration from fellow editor Kyle Yost and his weekly fantasy football-centric open threads on Friday, I’m going to be here each Saturday morning serving up my best bet for the Lions every week.

In this week’s matchup, there’s plenty of areas worth a closer look to glean a lead on a good bet, so let’s start with the fallout from a couple of major injuries suffered by each team. For the Lions, the loss of Jeff Okudah to a ruptured Achilles was a massive loss for their secondary, and it’s likely to result in more favorable matchups for everyone from Davante Adams to Allen Lazard. On the Packers side, the news of edge rusher Za’Darius Smith going on short-term injured reserve subtracts one of Green Bay’s most productive sources of pass rush.

After our chat with Tex Western from Acme Packing Co. on First Byte this week and now taking into consideration the significant losses to each team’s defense, I’m expecting a high-scoring affair on Monday Night Football. The total is currently at 48, but there’s too much offense to keep this scoreboard light on points. The Packers looked especially susceptible to the run game last week against the New Orleans Saints—Green Bay gave up 171 yards on 38 carries, good for 4.4 yards per carry. If the Lions had a strength on offense, it’s the play of their running backs as both runners and receivers. And while the Packers offense suffered one of its worst performances of the Aaron Rodgers era last Sunday, there isn’t a better team for Green Bay to bounce back against than a short-handed and extremely young secondary.

Hitting the over at 48 is my best bet in Week 2’s matchup between Detroit and Green Bay.

Your turn.
