The coaching staff is placing faith in young players for the long haul.

The Detroit Lions went young and sent a statement about their future plans with the 53-man roster handed down on Tuesday, followed by complementary moves on waivers and the practice squad Wednesday. One needs look no further that the cornerback corps to see a shining example of this, with names like AJ Parker and Bobby Price on the squad—while a hoary 26-year-old Mike Ford is cut.

It’s the sort of moves that say the Lions are planning for a longer future and rolling the dice with some unknown quantities, but it could bite them if things don’t quite pan out. And what about veteran leadership?

We’re breaking it all down in the latest episode of the Pride Of Detroit PODcast. We discuss the most interesting qualities of this finalized roster, plus suss out the Lions strategy for the future. We’re also explaining some of the more savvy decisions with the roster, such as cutting both kickers and whittling down to just one tight end for a brief period of time. We also break down what the Lions are getting in KhaDarel Hodge, and debate whether or not there’s room for a veteran quarterback like Cam Newton on the roster with Tim Boyle heading to the injured reserve.

It’s all yours on your favorite podcast platforms, and the show is—get this—totally free. No cost. I know, I can’t believe it myself. This is why I get back exactly no bucks.
