The winless Lions will enter Week 8 as home underdogs.

If you thought the Detroit Lions may actually be favorites this week due to their hotly-contested loss to the Los Angeles Rams this week—especially with a shaky-looking Philadelphia Eagles team coming to town—you are sadly mistaken. The power of an 0-7 record reigns supreme, and all things considered, it would be pretty odd to see a winless team in Week 8 go into the week a Vegas favorite.

No, instead, the Eagles are 3.5-point road favorites according to DraftKings.

Philadelphia is just 2-5, and they’ve had some ugly games through the first two months of the season. They were dropped by the Cowboys 41-21, thoroughly beaten by the Chiefs 42-30, and Sunday’s loss to the Raiders was especially embarrassing, losing by a final score of 33-22 that doesn’t quite show how lopsided the game was (it was 30-7 entering the fourth quarter). Additionally, their only two wins came against the 3-3 Falcons and 3-4 Panthers.

Still, it’s hard to justify favoring the Lions right now, even if they’re competing hard. But given the current trends of each team, it will be interesting to see if bettors believe this is the week the Lions pick up their first win and perhaps move that line closer to even as we get closer to Sunday.

The last time the Lions and Eagles played each other was in 2019 when the Lions stole a game in Philadelphia. In fact, the Lions have won three straight matchups against the Eagles, dating back to 2015. However, it’s safe to say that both teams look significantly different from even that 2019 matchup, with both teams undergoing a coaching and quarterback change since then.
