And Aaron Donald lost an award to Tom Brady

So apparently the ESPY Award ceremony was held on Saturday night, and Tom Brady beat out Aaron Donald for the honor of NFL’s Best Player. From what I hear. The ESPYs (“Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly” is what ESPN came up with as a way to turn “ESPY” into an acronym) are the worldwide leader in sports’ attempt for some summer ratings and I’m not sure how that’s going but in case you were interested in keeping tabs on Donald’s accolades, this is one that he did not get.

Brady beat out Donald, MVP Aaron Rodgers, and 2,000-yard rusher Derrick Henry to be named as the NFL’s best player by ESPN.

Donald won Defensive Player of the Year for the third time in 2020, after having previously won the award in 2017 and 2018. Donald was also the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2014 and he has been named as a first team All-Pro in each of the last six seasons. Donald had 13.5 sacks and 28 QB hits last season and his Adjusted Value of 20 (Pro-Football-Reference’s player value tool) was first in the NFL, whereas Brady notched a 15 in that category.

Henry and Rodgers each had 17 AV.

Aaron Donald didn’t win an ESPY on Saturday night, but perhaps this is also the first time you’re even hearing who was nominated.
