The misdemeanor domestic battery charge filed against Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Zay Jones in November was dismissed Tuesday.

In a court filing, assistant state attorney Marie Theresa Ryan wrote that “after reviewing the evidence,” Jones wouldn’t be prosecuted for the charges.

According to the booking report from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Jones was accused by the mother of his child of grabbing a necklace around her neck and pulling it off, causing scratches.

While the charges against Jones have been dropped, he may still subject to discipline from the NFL. The league’s personal conduct policy states that players “convicted of a crime or subject to a disposition of a criminal proceeding” are subject to discipline.

Jones, who turns 29 later this month, finished the 2023 season with 34 receptions for 321 yards and two touchdowns while dealing with knee injuries for much of the year. With Buffalo Bills wide receiver Gabe Davis set to join the Jaguars in free agency, Jones has been increasingly discussed as a player who could be released to save cap space.
