D’Wayne Eskridge was selected 56th overall by the Seattle Seahawks, prefers to go by Dee, works really hard, and was compared to Tyler Lockett before joining the team.

He also has had a big toe injury for two months, but this might not affect his ability to be game-ready in the least.

As was made much of two years ago, rookies such as John Ursua can have specific problems learning the new playbook. It can be bad enough to keep them off the field. Pete Carroll mused last year:

Johnny Ursua coming up, we’re excited to see where he fits into it. He could definitely be a factor. He was the other end of the spectrum when we’re talking about young receivers. Johnny had a long way to go and had a lot to learn, and it took him longer to assimilate.

Dee Eskridge saw an unfortunately early arrival to the Physically Unable to Perform list. As a rookie receiver in the NFL, this can be devastating.

However, the Seattle Seahawks’ highest pick this season is determined not to miss out on anything, and he’s attached to the perfect quarterback. Eskridge is still poised to have a big impact this year because of two important work ethics.

I’ve written on this topic specifically before: Russell Wilson generally grabs a pass-catcher and makes him his target. He did it with Jimmy Graham, Tyler Lockett, and DK Metcalf.

Two years ago it was Metcalf hitting the early field – or as many fans might have seen at Seahawks training camp, staying late to catch from the pitching machine. Metcalf became known for his impressive work ethic. Now, it’s Eskridge’s turn.

This can be as much as 45 minutes or an hour of sunrise practice between the two. Wilson’s special attention has resulted in massive gains for his chosen targets, and this is fantastic news for the speedy rookie.
