News and such.

The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced four roster moves ahead of their Week 8 game against the Detroit Lions An overview:

  • RB Miles Sanders was placed on injured reserve.
  • S K’Von Wallace was activated from injured reserve.
  • RB Jordan Howard and TE Richard Rodgers were temporarily elevated from the practice squad.

Let’s sort through this news on a player-by-player basis.

MILES SANDERS

It was previously reported that Sanders was heading to IR, so no shock here. The Eagles are hoping he’s going to be ready to play when he becomes eligible to be activated in Week 11.

K’VON WALLACE

Wallace is set to be active for the first time since Week 3. With Anthony Harris doubtful to play, activating Wallace gives the Eagles some depth behind projected starters Rodney McLeod and Marcus Epps. Wallace might see some rotational playing time, if not more.

JORDAN HOWARD

The Eagles were always likely to elevate Howard with Sanders going down. They needed a third running back on the roster to go with Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott. It remains to be seen just how heavily they’ll rely on Howard but the thinking here is he’ll see a number of carries. Gainwell and Scott aren’t volume runners the way that Howard can be.

RICHARD RODGERS

The Eagles elevated Dick Rod for the second week in a row to be their tight end behind Dallas Goedert and Jack Stoll. Rodgers is no longer eligible to be elevated since teams can only use this maneuver on practice squad players twice per season. But the Eagles are OK with that since Tyree Jackson will likely be back next week. It seemed like Jackson might have a chance to play in this week’s game but he wasn’t activated from injured reserve ahead of Saturday’s 4:00 PM deadline.
