Roster news.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced some practice squad news on Thursday morning.

Brett Toth is now back with the team after clearing waivers. The Eagles cut him to make room for the Kary Vincent Jr. trade.

The Eagles seem to value Toth’s developmental potential so it’s good for them that they didn’t end up losing him to another team.

In order to make room for Toth on the practice squad, the Eagles released Craig James. Things have gone downhill for James ever since he had a good 2020 offseason that earned him a one-year contract extension and co-special teams captaincy. He couldn’t stay healthy last year and he was banged up again in training camp this year. The Eagles clearly still liked James enough to keep him on the practice squad and even use three protections on him.

But with the Eagles acquiring KVJ, Tay Gowan, and Mac McCain since the start of the season, James became expendable. The team is rolling with their younger defensive backs moving forward.

James is good enough to get a look with another team, even if it’s just a practice squad spot. We’ll see if he catches on somewhere else.

See below for a current look at the Eagles’ 2021 practice squad.
