Time to analyze the Philadelphia Eagles’ snap counts from their Week 8 win over the Detroit Lions.

OFFENSE

• Jordan Mailata began the game at left tackle but finished at right tackle after the game was in hand and Lane Johnson got some rest.
• Landon Dickerson played the entire game at left guard.
• Nate Herbig played most of the game at right guard in relief of Jack Driscoll. He finished the game at center with Jason Kelce being rested. Interesting to see the Eagles use him in the middle instead of Dickerson.
• Quez Watkins led all Eagles skill players in playing time but only saw two targets. He caught both of them for 16 yards. He was Philly’s leading wide receiver in this game.
• Jalen Hurts’ last snap in this game came late in the third quarter. He was able to finish the game on the bench with Philly up 38-0.
• Dallas Goedert led the Eagles in receiving for the second week in a row. He appears to be the top target in the offense right now.
• DeVonta Smith saw just three targets. He caught one of them for 15 yards and dropped a short one over the middle.
• Jack Stoll saw a career-high in playing time with the Eagles often running out of 12 personnel in this matchup. Stoll also logged his first career reception. It will be interesting to see how his role is impacted with Tyree Jackson expected to be activated to the roster in Week 9.
• Greg Ward saw his highest snap count since Week 17 last year. No targets, though. Ward also filled in as Philly’s punt returner after Jalen Reagor left the game.
• Despite not logging an offensive touch until Week 7, Boston Scott led all Eagles running backs in playing time this week. He also led all Eagles running backs in yards with 60 on 12 carries. Scott figures to continue to be Philly’s top RB while Miles Sanders misses at least two more games on injured reserve.
• Richard Rodgers may have actually played his last game as a member of the Eagles. He’s no longer eligible to be temporary elevated from the practice squad since Philly has done that twice with him this season. And with Jackson expected to return, he’s expendable.
• Kenneth Gainwell saw the second-most running back snaps but 12 of his 13 carries didn’t come until Philly’s final two drives, when the game was well over. Based on Sunday’s usage, Gainwell is RB3 right now.
• Jordan Howard logged 12 carries for 57 yards on his 16 snaps played. JoHo was RB2 behind Scott.
• Brett Toth saw playing time at right guard with Herbig shifting to center late in the game.
• Andre Dillard filled in at left tackle when Mailata shifted to the right side.
• Gardner Minshew made his Eagles debut in Detroit. He completed his two passes for 11 yards and an 89.6 passer rating. Which was actually higher than Hurts’ 86.3 passer rating. Quarterback controversy confirmed.
• Jalen Reagor saw two targets for one reception and zero yards. He looked effective as a runner, though, with two carries for 21 yards. Unfortunately, Reagor sprained his ankle and had to get carted off before the end of the first quarter.
• Driscoll suffered a hand injury early in the game and did not return. Driscoll has been banged up a decent amount since entering the league. Something to monitor.
• J.J. Arcega-Whiteside left the game early with an ankle injury. JJAW has been banged up this season.

DEFENSE

• Mailata, Dickerson, and Marcus Epps were the only Eagles players to not miss a snap.
• Excluding Epps, the starting secondary had the benefit of leaving early and getting some rest.
• T.J. Edwards saw his highest snap count percentage this season. It was the most he’s played since Week 17 last year. Edwards led the Eagles in tackles with 13, including two TFLs. Also had a quarterback hit. Edwards has athletic limitations but he has good instincts, which is important at his position. The Eagles might want to continue to utilize him at their top LB. Certainly preferable to other options.
• Davion Taylor saw the highest snap count percentage of his career for the second week in a row. He had five tackles in this one. With Eric Wilson a healthy scratch and Alex Singleton seeing a smaller role, Edwards and Taylor are the top two linebackers right now.
• Avonte Maddox had a fruitful return to his hometown, forcing a fumble that created Darius Slay’s touchdown.
• Milton Williams logged a career-high snap count percentage. He notched his first NFL sack with this playing time.
• Derek Barnett logged his first sack since Week 11 last year. That gives him two sacks in his last 13 games.
• Javon Hargrave was held without a sack for the third game in a row. He did have a quarterback hit.
• Two sacks and two tackles for loss for Josh Sweat. Good game.
• Hassan Ridgeway notched his first career forced fumble.
• Fletcher Cox had one tackle and one quarterback hit. He has two sacks in his last 12 games. NFL trade rumors indicate the Eagles have gotten calls on him but his contract isn’t easily movable, so he’ll likely be on the roster past the deadline.
• Ryan Kerrigan still only has just one tackle in 197 snaps played. But, hey, he did have two quarterback hits on Jared Goff.
• Tarron Jackson saw a career-high in playing time and notched both his first career sack and forced fumble.
• Just 34% of the snaps is a season low for Alex Singleton. It’s his lowest count since Week 5 of the 2020 season. He’s seemingly fallen behind Edwards and Taylor on the depth chart.
• Andre Chachere, Shaun Bradley, Tay Gowan (newly acquired), Josiah Scott, and K’Von Wallace all benefited from getting to play in garbage time.
• Genard Avery officially got the start at linebacker since he was on the field for the first snap. He played sparingly, though.
• Marlon Tuipulotu played for the first time since Week 3. He logged his first career tackle.
• Patrick Johnson got a couple snaps. Good for him.

SPECIAL TEAMS

• Philly’s specialists were the only three active Eagles players who didn’t log at least one offensive or defensive snap in this game.

DID NOT PLAY

INACTIVE: Eric Wilson, Anthony Harris, Zech McPhearson, Reid Sinnett, Sua Opeta, Jack Anderson, Mac McCain

ACTIVE: N/A

• Wonder if we’ll see Wilson get cut if he’s not traded before the deadline. Or if the Eagles are just going to continue to keep him a healthy scratch.
• Harris might be able to return this week. He was ruled “doubtful” as opposed to “out” on the final injury report.
• Too bad that ZMP missed the opportunity to get some defensive playing time. The rookie CB only has two defensive snaps to this point in his career.
