Roster movement.

On Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles waived/injured a player to bring back a former Eagle.

On Tuesday, the Philadelphia Eagles waived/injured a player to bring back a former Eagle.

This time it’s Michael Walker who has been waived/injured. The 24-year-old originally signed with the Birds back in early June. He projected as a camp body but there was some thought he might be able to win a roster spot by standing out as a returner in the preseason.

Unfortunately for Walker, he won’t get the chance to show what he’s got. After previously missing some practice time with a foot injury, Walker got hurt again during Tuesday’s practice. He actually had to be carted off the field, which is never a good sign.

With Walker hurt, the team decided to claim former Eagles wide receiver Marken Michel off waivers from the Carolina Panthers. Michel, as you may remember, originally signed with the Eagles in January 2019. He flashed in the preseason with a 75-yard touchdown reception on a Nate Sudfeld throw:

Michel failed to make the roster but later returned to the Eagles’ practice squad in December 2019. The team re-signed him to a futures deal but then waived him in April 2020.

Michel resurfaced with the Panthers in August 2020. He made Carolina’s practice squad and was promoted to the game day roster on several occasions. He only logged three offensive snaps and 15 special teams snaps, though.

With the Panthers recently moving on from Michel, the Eagles decided to bring him back since they needed another body at wide receiver. Philly is currently missing DeVonta Smith, John Hightower, and Jhamon Aubson … which means the healthy WR bodies are Jalen Reagor, Travis Fulgham, Greg Ward, Quez Watkins, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Adrian Killins, Andre Patton, Hakeem Butler, and now Michel. From that group, the Eagles would probably prefer not to play Reagor, Fulgham, and Ward too much in the preseason games. Michel is here to help fill snaps.
