Ranking the summer performances of 83 Eagles, from Jordan Mailata on down – The Athletic
83. Andre Dillard. Dillard returned to practice Sunday as a limited participant after missing over a week with a knee injury. Even before the injury, Dillard struggled on a near-daily basis while Mailata flourished. Are the Eagles willing to make Dillard the backup tackle on game day (which would mean Mailata having to move to right tackle in case of a Lane Johnson injury)? Would they carry Dillard on the roster and make him suffer the ignominy of being inactive on game day? Or will they accept an offer to move him elsewhere? As the lazy writer truism goes, time will tell.
Eagles mailbag: Figuring out RB and WR positions – NBCSP
Yeah, both are looking like bad draft picks right now. Not sure how to look at it any differently. I thought maybe Andre Dillard would be better this year, but he was struggling before he got hurt. On merit, you’re right, he probably doesn’t deserve a roster spot. But the Eagles aren’t going to cut him either. Maybe they’d trade him. That’s a possibility but I’m not sure they’d get a very good return. In a way, it would almost be more embarrassing to trade a former first-rounder for a Day 3 pick a few years later. If Dillard is on the team, he’s going to be a backup left tackle who doesn’t offer much else. As for Arcega-Whiteside, he has been playing inside as a slot guy this summer and has had an OK training camp. He hasn’t made made nearly as many plays as he did last summer. So it’s really hard to envision a scenario where he turns it around. If he makes the roster, he’ll likely be the sixth and final receiver.
Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: Defense wins the day again – BGN
Good practice for Josiah Scott, who appears to be on the roster bubble. The backup nickel cornerback made the play of the day with a nice leaping pick on Flacco in 7-on-7. Scott was also in position to light up Greg Ward on a short completion. He disrupted another Flacco attempt meant for Jack Stoll to force a breakup.

Analyzing the Roster – Iggles Blitz
We know DeVonta Smith, Jalen Reagor and Quez Watkins will all make the team. Things are wide open after that. Travis Fulgham had a great month in the 2020 season, but hasn’t been the same player since. I hope they keep him around to see if the light can go back on. He showed that he’s got the talent. He’s just struggled to perform this summer. Greg Ward has continued to do everything possible to make the team, but he has no upside and he’s purely a slot receiver. You want to keep him because he’s the kind of person you want to keep around to build good culture. He also can be an emergency QB and STer. That might be enough for him to stay. J.J. Arcega-Whiteside has had a solid camp, but hasn’t done anything in the preseason games. I’m sure the Eagles want to keep him to see if he can finally do something, even if only as a role player.
2021 NFL season: Best/worst-case projections for notable offensive rookies – NFL.com
DeVonta Smith: Best-case scenario: Smith is clearly the No. 1 option in the passing game. His smooth route running creates consistent separation, and he piles up some home runs over the top as well. He’s in the mix for Offensive Rookie of the Year. Worst-case scenario: The two potential negative outcomes for Smith involve durability issues (wasn’t a problem in college) or a run-dominant offense led by Jalen Hurts. Even if the Eagles do lean on the run game, that should create more one-on-one matchups for an elite route runner. Projected stats: 80 catches, 1,000 yards, 6 TDs.
Miles Sanders is ready for whatever role the Eagles have in mind – PE.com
There is no magical formula for the number of touches Miles Sanders needs to be one of the game’s best running backs in 2021. Head Coach Nick Sirianni is going to feel it out as he goes along. That’s going to be the fun part for Sirianni and his offensive coaches – with a plethora of weapons who will do damage with the ball in their hands, Sirianni has options. And Sanders is one of those options, a player entering his third season who has been one of the NFL’s best big-play running backs in his first two seasons. Sanders wants to now “take it to the next level” both as a runner and in the passing game. He huddled up with former Eagles running back Brian Westbrook on Saturday during the Eagles Autism Challenge at Lincoln Financial and that was one of the many topics they discussed. Westbrook, of course, was one of the game’s best backs catching the football and winning favorable matchups. That’s the goal for Sanders.

There are still some hurdles to clear, and the Colts will have to see how Wentz’s foot ultimately responds from today’s training camp practice—but yeah, it looks like the former Philadelphia Eagles franchise quarterback has a very realistic chance to make his Indianapolis debut in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks. Quite frankly, there’s real reason for optimism right now.
Raiders roster moves: Cornerback Rasul Douglas among cuts – Silver And Black Pride
The Las Vegas Raiders got a jump on Tuesday’s roster cut-down by making a few moves, most notably, cutting veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas. Douglas was signed as a free agent this offseason and he was expected to make the team when he was signed. But the Raiders continued to load up at the position in the offseason. Plus, Douglas didn’t perform that well in preseason play.
Washington receiver Steven Sims Jr. released; what’s next for the position group? – Hogs Haven
Antonio Gandy-Golden, Isaiah Wright, Dax Milne, and DeAndre Carter are fighting for the sixth and seventh spot at the receiver position. […] Carter would be strictly on the roster for special team purposes, which is fine; however, I think Carter only makes the roster as a seventh receiver, so it’s hard to see he is in the lead in any way. More importantly, Carter is a plant-and-go guy as a returner, does very little dancing, and picks up positive yards, which bodes well for a player in the spot he’s in.

Browns will place Cody Parkey on IR – Dawgs By Nature
Parkey was coming off a 2020 season where he connected on 19-of-22 field goals in 15 regular-season games and didn’t miss on three postseason field goal attempts. He was also perfect on eight extra points in the postseason after making 43-of-47 in the regular season. Because the Browns are placing Parkey on injured reserve prior to September 1, the team cannot designate him to return during the season.

“I just tell them to come watch the game or practice and see if they can [tell] if I’m 39 out there,” Peters said of the doubters, via Mark Potash of the Chicago Sun Times. “I feel good. Will Parks is a sixth-year player who has had experience all over the secondary with the Denver Broncos and Philadelphia Eagles. He was thought to be a veteran signing made in case the team could not find younger players among the rookie class, fit cornerbacks Mike Hughes and Deandre Baker into their plans or couldn’t get injured third-year player Juan Thornhill back into action. It now appears that the Chiefs feel comfortable enough in the secondary to let this particular insurance policy expire.

Nearly nine months after the first Americans received their shots, the Covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer/BioNTech received full approval from the Food and Drug Administration for people 16 and older on Monday. This could help increase the number of people willing to get vaccines and make it easier to compel those who are less willing — if health officials can cut through the mounting confusion around their efficacy, booster shots, and the threat of the delta variant.
