Darius Slay to Steven Nelson: Eagles green would look good on you – PFT
Cornerback Steven Nelson has not found a new team since being released by the Steelers in March, but one NFC East corner would like to see Nelson become his teammate this season. Eagles corner Darius Slay posted a message on Twitter Tuesday that was directed at Nelson and said “that green will look good on ya” in reference to Philly’s uniform color. Nelson replied that “it could all be so simple my man.”
Biggest reasons to be excited about the 2021 Eagles – BGN
1 – DeVonta MF Smith. I mean, this should be No. 1 on everyone’s list. Smith’s potential is tantalizing. He’s not some project that the Eagles have high hopes for. The Heisman Trophy winner is a proven commodity in that he actually knows how to play wide receiver at a high level. Smith is incredibly skilled and he figures to be a volume target from Day 1. He should reasonably be the Eagles’ first wide receiver to hit 1,000 yards since Jeremy Maclin last did it all the way back in 2014. I legitimately cannot wait to watch Smith terrorize NFC East defensive backs. Especially when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys (allowed the Eagles to trade up for him!) and the New York Giants (wanted to draft him). Smith is going to be a star and this season should only be the beginning of a very bright career.

Excitement? – Iggles Blitz
I cannot wait to see DeVonta Smith in action. I’m not sure the last time I was this excited about an Eagles rookie. Carson Wentz was the #3 QB up until Sam Bradford got traded in August so I didn’t think I’d get to see Wentz play that year. Maybe Mike Patterson in 2005. Or Corey Simon in 2000. Possibly McNabb in 1999. I think you get the point. It has been a while since I was this excited about a rookie. Smith was my favorite college football player last year. I’m not an Alabama fan, but they’re on TV every week and in so many big games you can’t help but get to know that team. Smith was a dominant receiver. But he wasn’t huge or some freak athlete. He was a polished player who played with a level of precision that you don’t see that much in college these days. Each week Smith would dominate. He would be on a field littered with future NFL players, plenty of them bigger and faster than him. Still, Smith found a way to take over games. The coaches schemed him open at times, but Smith made those plays. He caught the ball and usually made good things happen after the catch. When he was covered tightly, he still made some of those plays. Tough. Smart. Skilled. Ultra-competitive. He was just like me on the kickball field in fourth grade.
NFC East Dream Team: Division’s best defensive players – Big Blue View
Brandon Graham, PHI. Graham is one of the more underrated players in the NFC East. He plays with good leverage and has some of the better processing skills in the division. His spatial awareness, reactionary quickness, and understanding of assignments have made him a reliable contributor for the Eagles under multiple defensive coordinators. He is 33 years old, but he hasn’t had a less than 50 pressure season since 2013; he’s coming off a 56 pressure, 8 sack, season, according to Pro Football Focus, and he’s a good run defender as well. Graham makes for a good rotational player along with Sweat and Young as an EDGE rusher with inside capabilities.

At the Quarterback Collective, these coaches not only worked with athletes whom they might see again in their own buildings in 5-7 years, but also bumped shoulders with and picked the brains of the offensive coaches and coordinators present (and vice versa). In the quiet corners of classrooms between film sessions, or on the sideline between drills and during group dinners, the chatter about concepts and schemes was constant, and enlightening. “To understand (the way offenses and quarterbacks are evolving), as a defensive coach, it makes me better as a defensive coach and it makes me better as, potentially and hopefully one day, a head coach,” [Eagles linebackers coach Nick] Rallis said. “An opportunity like this … to get around some really good offensive minds is something I jump at.”
49ers waive LB Nate Gerry – Niners Nation
The 49ers announced they had linebacker Nathan Gerry on Tuesday afternoon. Gerry signed with the Niners on March 29 of this year. Gerry did not have a great reputation last season; as Eagles fans will tell you, he was the worst linebacker in football. From coverage to tackling, Gerry left a lot to be desired. He can run, but outside of that, I wasn’t sure what San Francisco saw in him besides potentially adding more speed on special teams. Gerry did not have any guaranteed money in his contract, so the 49ers save $850,000 in cap savings.
Five Dallas Cowboys youngsters who hopefully emerge in training camp – Blogging The Boys
The Cowboys traded up [with the Eagles] to draft Tyler Biadasz 146th overall in the fourth round last year in the hopes he would develop into their long-term starting center. Well, a little over a year later it looks as if those hopes have come to fruition. He’s already being highly spoken of due to his performance so far this offseason, but while that’s encouraging, the Cowboys really need him to emerge into the starting centerpiece of the offensive line in training camp. With Dak trying rebound from a serious season-ending ankle injury, Biadasz will be key to keeping No. 4 upright and healthy in 2021 and for the foreseeable future.
