2021 Fantasy Football: WR Superlatives – Fake Teams
Most likely to be this year’s Justin Jefferson: DeVonta Smith. What a rookie year it was for Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings in 2020. Jefferson finished last season with 88 receptions, a rookie record of 1,400 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns. The LSU product would conclude the 2020 season as WR6 in half-PPR formats and would be on a lot of championship teams in fantasy football. Jefferson’s ability to come into the NFL and dominate the way he did is extremely rare, hence why he was able to set a new mark for receiving yards by a rookie wideout. So to expect a rookie wide receiver to do something close to what Jefferson did last year is extremely naïve. But if there was one rookie wide receiver who is best positioned to come close to what Jefferson did, it’s DeVonta Smith. Smith was selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles just after winning the Heisman Trophy. Smith has been a popular player to talk about due to his atypical size at wide receiver. While Smith stands at six feet tall, he weighs 170 pounds, causing some to be concerned with his durability at the next level. Despite the doubts people have about his size, Smith is a speedy wide receiver that is going to immediately be the No. 1 wide receiver on the Eagles.

Don’t overdraft Eagles players just because you love the Eagles! We all do it. I get it. We want the players to do well because that means our fantasy teams are doing well and the Eagles are doing well. Conversely, there’s nothing more crushing than having an Eagles player stink it up on your fantasy squad while the Birds lose. It’s the true double-whammy. Getting Jalen Hurts in round eight or nine could win you your league. In his four starts at the end of the 2020 season, Hurts averaged 23 fantasy points per game. He is a Konami QB, a quarterback whose rushing ability elevates him into the top tier of fantasy QBs. Hurts averaged 68 rushing yards per game during those four starts and that includes him not totally finishing out the team’s Week 17 game against Washington. He could hit 900 or more rushing yards this season while also tossing 20-plus touchdowns.

My five matchups for this game are already written, and if I’m Atlanta, I’m terrified of what the interior of my offensive line looks like heading into Week 1 against Fletcher Cox and Javon Hargrave. I’d be playing the quick passing game, trying to coax the safeties up, and then using max protect to take shots down the field, hoping to exploit whoever starts opposite Anthony Harris at safety on the back end. If that’s Rodney McLoed, I’m finding out if he can run. If it’s K’Von Wallace, I’m making him prove that he knows where he’s supposed to be, and that he can make tackles after the catch.

25. Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have entered a new era, as QB Carson Wentz and coach Doug Pederson have been replaced by Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni. Hurts will have himself a respectable supporting cast, as the Eagles’ offensive line is still one of the league’s best when healthy. He also will have the likes of DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, Zach Ertz, Jalen Reagor and Miles Sanders at his disposal. The Eagles’ defense looks solid on paper after the additions of every-down players Steven Nelson, Anthony Harris and Eric Wilson to a group that includes Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham and Darius Slay. If Hurts struggles, the Eagles aren’t going to win much this season, but if he emerges as a difference-maker, the rest of the roster is good enough to make this team a competitor in the NFC East.
How good are the Eagles at each position? – NBCSP
Wide receiver: A lot of talent and a lot of questions. The entire group has 133 career catches (Greg Ward 81, Jalen Reagor 31 and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside 14, Quez Watkins 7), or about 40 fewer catches than Justin Jefferson and Terry McLaurin had last year. There is obvious potential. DeVonta Smith has a real shot to be a star. Reagor has had flashes this summer, although not the consistency you want. Watkins looks fantastic. Ward is a calming influence and a reliable slot. A lot of potential here. But ultimately this group’s success will be determined by how well the two first-round picks play, and considering the Eagles’ history drafting wide receivers it makes sense not to get too excited just yet.

Former Eagle Freddie Mitchell went on Instagram and shared a ton of videos from last night’s flooding. Turns out his KOP-area house was completely walloped, and rescuers came via boat to get him out. With no access to his clothing, he went to Walmart in his underwear to buy something to put on.

RJ Ochoa – 11-6. Ultimately this team should easily win the NFC East. That may seem like overconfidence, but given the state of the division it should easily belong to Dallas. They get to play quarterbacks like Sam Darnold, Teddy Bridgewater, Jameis Winston, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Daniel Jones, and Jalen Hurts which should help this new-look defense be better. It’s bold to assume that the offense will just take care of itself, but at this point it has to. Let’s get to the playoffs.
Position preview: At running back, all eyes on Saquon Barkley – Big Blue View
And for most of training camp and the preseason, it looked as though the top of the Giants’ running back room was set in stone. Saquon Barkley would be the starter and the only question was when he would make it back onto the field. The big questions with Barkley are when he’ll be on the field, how much he’ll be on the field, and whether he can stay on the field. While Barkley is one of the most exciting players in the NFL, we can’t ignore that he’s had two significant lower-body injuries over the past two seasons. But as long as he is healthy, there’s no question that he’s the starter.
