2020 YAC+: Michael Pittman, Darren Fells, and the 49ers Shine – Football Outsiders
Coming to the flipside of the table, we have Zach Ertz sitting in dead last. Ertz has never been a YAC+ guy; this is his third consecutive year in the bottom 15 and he has never had a positive season in his career. Normally, that has been OK; Ertz’s game has been his great hands, not his ability with the ball. Not so last year, when everything fell apart, for both the Eagles in general and Ertz in particular. He was dead last in DYAR, DVOA, and catch rate among qualified tight ends. Add the YAC+ “crown” to that total, and he’ll have a couple more “accolades” coming in stat articles this month. At this point, with Ertz not attending offseason workouts, it seems exceptionally unlikely that he will be on the Eagles in 2021. They may well be better off for it.

Honestly, though, I don’t think what Robinson had to say here is super concerning. It only feels natural to have reservations about Sirianni considering we don’t know much about his ability to coach! He’s been a coordinator for just three seasons and he’s never been a full-time play-caller. He doesn’t have a proven track record. Players are just as much in the dark as us outsiders are if this dude is actually able to successfully lead his team to win football games. That being said, one can wonder how much patience Eagles players will have for Sirianni. To what extent will he get the benefit of the doubt? Will Sirianni’s high-energy approach rub guys the wrong way at some point? Will he be able to adjust? The rookie head coach has much to prove in many respects.

Wallace had 21 tackles on the season, and I have him down for 3 missed tackles in the games I watched, which doesn’t include the bad angle he took on Aaron Jones’ 77-yard TD run against the Packers. Skill players are bigger, stronger, and faster in the NFL, so it’s not uncommon for rookies to miss their share of tackles, but it’s an area of concern. Beyond the missed tackles, as shown in the video above, Wallace had a habit of going low on running backs, conceding that they will gain an extra yard or two (or three) when they fall forward.

On August 7, he will be in Canton, Ohio, to be celebrated for a tremendous football career, and he will eventually take the stage at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium to deliver a speech that has been nearly 40 years in the making. Despite the long wait, there was nothing but happiness and gratitude exuding from Carmichael when he spoke to members of the media Tuesday via Zoom. “One more year didn’t hurt,” he said when talking about the pandemic delaying his Hall of Fame moment another year. “There was nothing else for me to do but wait,” he later added.

8) I love Dak. I loathe the rest of the division. Heck, I won’t be surprised if Hurts is the second-best quarterback in the NFC East this year, especially with the addition of Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith. But Hurts remains raw as an NFL signal-caller. Meanwhile, I think the Washington quarterback situation is terrible. I’m sorry, but Ryan Fitzpatrick is not the answer. And I still haven’t seen anything all that encouraging from Jones, whose most consistent contribution is turning the ball over.

LeSean McCoy: Some teams have reached out, looking for right fit – PFT
Veteran running back LeSean McCoy played sparingly for the Buccaneers last season and he was out of the lineup for the Chiefs down the stretch in 2019, but he’s not ready to call an end to his playing career. McCoy was a guest on NFL Network Tuesday and said that he considered retiring after running 10 times for 31 yards for the Buccaneers last season. He’s put those thoughts on hold and is pitching himself as “a veteran that wants to win, knows how to win and how to be a great teammate and leader.”

Let me make this clear. If Tyron Smith is healthy and on the field, he’s a top-five tackle in the league. There’s no question about it. Unfortunately for Smith, staying on the field has become a big problem in recent years. The star left tackle was once again bitten by the injury bug last season, and he was forced to miss 14 of the Cowboys’ 16 games. Smith has now missed at least three games in every season since 2016. Over that five-year span, the Cowboys are a .500 team (13-13) when he’s been unable to suit up. Protecting Dak Prescott is the Cowboys’ number one priority. If Smith is unable to be on the field, it won’t be very easy to do so. Dallas has Terence Steele, Brandon Knight, or Ty Nsekhe as their likely options at tackle if Smith does down with another injury. A huge downgrade from the former All-Pro.
