The wait was worth it. Every painstaking moment from 18 additional months of waiting to step to the dais and deliver his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction speech evaporated for Harold Carmichael on Saturday here. His dream came true. Harold Carmichael is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, a football “journey,” as he called it in his induction speech, complete. “I can’t describe what this means for me and my family and the fans who have supported me through all of these years,” Carmichael said after he was honored second after the late Steve Sabol from NFL Films was inducted. “It’s been a journey and I’m just so blessed to be here enjoying this moment. God has given me the patience. He told me, ‘Just wait, Harold.’ I waited, and here I am. I prayed for this day. I prayed for the moment. He got me through it. I was kind of shaking. My whole insides were shaking up there (on stage).”

Pro Football Hall of Fame inductions: Saturday’s highlights for the 2020 and Centennial classes – ESPN
The résumé: A four-time Pro Bowl selection, the 6-foot-8 Carmichael was the league’s Man of the Year in 1980 for his work in his community. In an era when Drew Pearson once led the league in receiving yards with 877 in 1977, Carmichael was consistent in his impact, averaging over 15 yards per catch in six seasons. He led the league in catches and receiving yards in 1973 and finished with three 1,000-yard seasons in his career. He said it: “I’m so honored to be part of this brotherhood. … What a journey … I remember coach [Dick] Vermeil saying ‘Do your job better than everybody else and surround yourself with good people.’”

On the whole, Hurts just isn’t having the camp I imagine the Eagles would’ve ideally liked to see from him. He’s done nothing to dissuade the team from looking for an eventual upgrade. Now, this isn’t to say things can’t change. In the words of Allen Iverson, we’re talking about practice. But practice isn’t necessarily irrelevant. I wrote here on a daily basis last year that Carson Wentz wasn’t looking good; he was especially struggling with accuracy. Sure enough, those issues carried over into the regular season. Maybe things will be different for Hurts. He’ll certainly get the chance to showcase his running ability in the games more than he can in practice settings. Even if he improves from camp, though, there’s still a large gap to bridge to becoming an indisputable franchise quarterback. Based on what we’ve seen so far, there are doubts about him doing just that.

Ben has talked about Riley being very active and vocal in STs drills. That won’t sound like a big deal to the casual fan, but it is huge to the coaches. They know how crucial STs is. Riley might work his way onto the roster if he keeps this up and performs well in the preseason games. Quez Watkins is a player that has really come on in recent practices. The offense needs all the help it can get and Watkins has explosive speed. It would be great if he could become a key role player for the offense. One of the big things we hear about is how much better his route-running is this year. Great sign.

After those three we get a big drop off to the Eagles at $59.2 million. The Eagles were way over the cap this year and used a bonus on 16 players, tops in the NFL. The Eagles are right up against the cap next year as well and seem to be using a rebuild on the fly kind of approach.

If Mailata wins this job — he is certainly doing that so far — then it probably is worth thinking about trading Dillard. The good thing for the Eagles is that they don’t have to right now or at all. Dillard was a 2019 draft pick so he’s still under contract for next season. But if a team offers up something that’s worthwhile, I’d certainly think about shipping him away for a Day 2 pick. It’ll come down to what kind of return they can get for him. Would they trade him for a fourth-round pick? The thing about Dillard is that based on his game at right tackle in 2019, I don’t think the Eagles can use him as their backup swing tackle. Typically, the third tackle can play on both sides. And it might also depend on Jack Driscoll. The 2020 fourth-round pick showed some promise as a rookie. He has mostly been playing on the right side but said the Eagles are planning on cross training him at left tackle and at guard. Ideally, he would be the next Big V. [BLG Note: Trading Dillard for a fourth would be a no-brainer. Will be surprised if they can get more than a late Day 3 pick.]

Peter Heacock and Marie Hart live in a house full of toys. And though many belong to their two young sons, the others are set pieces in their stop-motion animation studio. “You have to be willing to work really hard and to spend the hours to get good at the craft,” said Peter Heacock. “But the fact that, when it is time to get down to work, you get to play with little figurines and and work with people like the Eagles, that’s so cool.” Heacock and Hart, co-founders of unPOP Now, teamed up with the Philadelphia Eagles to create an animated short titled, “Merrill’s Memories.” It depicts longtime Eagles announcer, Merrill Reese, recounting the 1995 play against the Dallas Cowboys in which he famously invoked the film, “Groundhog Day.”

Philadelphia won despite Girardi insisting on using Llovera to kill every bit of momentum this team had in an attempt to lose this game despite being up 5-0. Kennedy had none of it as he stepped up for his new team. Players not named Bryce Harper also stepped up on Saturday afternoon to help the Phillies extend their winning streak to seven and their divisional lead to 1.5 games. Zack Wheeler is slated to take the mound for Philadelphia on Sunday as they set their sights on the sweep. [BLG Note: Let’s get this sweep.]
