Five keys for Hurts. 1. Improve accuracy. While Hurts had his fair share of highlight plays as a passer, his accuracy was inconsistent throughout his rookie season. Hurts, who improved his passing prowess during his one year at Oklahoma, still has a lot of room to grow when it comes to facilitating big plays in the passing game. Hurts will look to get his completion percentage above 60% this season. 2. Own Nick Sirianni’s playbook. With a new coaching staff in town, Hurts is learning his second offense in as many offseasons. Sirianni praised Hurts’ command of the playbook during the offseason program, but the head coach will want to see him master it by training camp. Hurts needs to be a leader on the field and in the classroom throughout training camp.
Weapon X Mailbag: Who do you want to win the Eagles’ left tackle battle? – BGN
Unless he has a disastrous camp and Dillard comes in looking like the second coming of Walter Jones, it should be Mailata’s job to lose. I would welcome a great training camp battle though. When’s the last time we had one of those? I think back to Jamaal Jackson and Hank Fraley fighting for the starting center job in 2005, an event that improbably led to the two players being on the cover of Sports Illustrated. The Eagles are starved for intriguing storylines, so it’d definitely give us all an exciting talking point. For nearly my entire life, the Eagles have had franchise left tackles. Tra Thomas was an All-Pro. Jason Peters is a Hall of Famer. I, like most Eagles fans, thought that Dillard would be the next in that storied line, but it increasingly feels like that’s not the case. I’m not putting Mailata in the Hall of Fame right now, but he can be a Pro Bowl player in this league.

Also, the latest news on Deshaun Watson, Zach Ertz, and the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols, as well as ESPN’s three-year power rankings, which has the Eagles 30th.

The ages of the six receivers we have making the cut? 22, 22, 25, 26, 23, and 24. There were some who believed that the Eagles should add a veteran receiver to that group, and if this were a season in which the Eagles were considered a Super Bowl contender, I’d agree. Since they’re not, just go young! I believe that Howie Roseman will hold onto hope that Arcega-Whiteside can begin to produce under a new offensive staff, so he’ll get one last shot to show something in real games this season. I’m not quite as high on Hightower’s chances on getting a second chance.

Watson will avoid $50,000 in daily fines by reporting to camp, but his decision to show up does not appear to have any bearing on his views about playing for the team during the 2021 season. Rapoport reports that his stance about wanting a trade away from the Texans has not changed.
Dak Prescott declines to divulge vaccination status: ‘I don’t necessarily think that’s exactly important’ – NFL.com
Elliott, who contracted COVID-19 last summer, told reporters prior to Prescott’s media session that he had been vaccinated because he wanted to be “in the best situation to be out there for my team week in and week out.” Prescott’s reply to the same question wasn’t nearly as transparent. “I don’t necessarily think that’s exactly important. I think that’s HIPAA,” Prescott said.

2020 was a nightmare for Cowboys’ linebacker Jaylon Smith. The 26-year-old had by far his worst pro season to date. Smith’s PFF defensive grade of 54.2 was 16 points lower than his mark of 70.2 in 2019. Smith was heavily scrutinized for his play on the field, and for good reason. Time and time again he seemed to be in a position to make plays but was simply just unable to execute.
‘Things I think’ as Giants begin training camp – Big Blue View
Let’s just say the NFL career of Giants’ first-round pick Kadarius Toney is not off to an ideal start. Cleat issues at rookie minicamp. Bypassing voluntary OTAs. Failing to finish the first practice of mandatory minicamp. Now, Toney is missing practice reps after being placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. There are cliff-jumping fans already labeling him a “bust.” That, I think, is ridiculous. Nothing that has happened makes him a bad guy. Nothing that has happened indicates he is a bad football player. All of it, truthfully, could have happened to anyone. It is just weird that it has all happened to Toney before he has really even gotten a chance to get his NFL career off the ground. Yes, my antenna is up when it comes to Toney. Yes, I wonder if all of this is going to slow his development or limit his usefulness to the Giants this season. I think, though, it’s far too early to jump to the conclusion that he was the wrong player for the Giants to select at No. 20.
