The Eagles threw shade at Haason Reddick after trading him to the New York Jets

The New York Jets’ newest player is taking some heat from his old team.

According to Jeff McLane, Eagles beat reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer, some Eagles players suspected that Haason Reddick was chasing sacks to earn a larger contract.

“I think there were some concerns about him chasing sacks,” McLane said on 97.5 The Fanatic. “I don’t know that is what specifically Fletcher Cox was referencing, but l heard from people in the organization that Haason was one of the guys they thought was doing that.”

The Jets are likely highly concerned about this new development. After all, it’s a terrible thing for edge rushers to be accused of wanting more sacks.

If anything, this sounds like sour grapes or just some showmanship from Reddick’s former team. The Jets are glad to benefit from the breakdown in contract discussions. Before the Jets-Eagles matchup in Week 6 of the 2023 season, Robert Saleh had high praise for Reddick.

It is unlikely that Saleh would care about Reddick chasing sacks. If anything, the Jets are likely to deploy Reddick with many opportunities to pin his ears back and rush the passer.

If the Eagles are bothered by players chasing sacks, they are likely to have some issues with their newest edge rusher, Bryce Huff. The Jets’ primary issue with Huff was his susceptibility to the run because of his eagerness to rush the passer. Huff’s pass rush effectiveness plummeted in games when he was asked to take the run into account.

Either way, this is a non-story for the Jets. Acquiring a premier edge rusher for a 2026 third-round pick is just another savvy move from Joe Douglas.
