The Jets have some flash in their running back room, but outside of Breece Hall, the room is also full of questions and unknowns.

The current group of running backs in New York includes Hall, Izzy Abanikanda, Xazavian Valladay, Jacques Patrick and fullback Nick Bawden.

Abanikanda showed flashes during the second half of the season as a rookie, but there are still questions about him as the No. 2 running back. Valladay and Patrick spent time on the practice squad and signed futures contracts after the season.

Chances are the Jets will add a veteran running back at some point before the season. In fact, ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini says “you can count on” the Jets adding a veteran to the mix.

Cimini recently appeared on the TOJ podcast with Will Parkinson and discussed the running back room and the Jets likely adding a veteran to the mix. Cimini didn’t give a specific timetable but sounded 100 percent confident the move will happen.

Among the veteran running backs still on the market include Ezekiel Elliott and J.K. Dobbins along with Rashaad Penny and Matt Breida. The Jets tried with Dalvin Cook last season but we saw how that turned out. Elliott and Dobbins could be more of a complement to Hall.

Perhaps as we get later into spring and closer to the summer the Jets make the move, but it sounds more a matter of when, not if.
