As I write this the garbage guy just scooped up a bag from my porch containing a dead rat my cat dropped on my doorstep, so welcome to Spooky Season. It’s October 1st, and let’s hope that bodes well for the Falcons as they enter their tilt against The Washington Football Team on Sunday.

Stats preview: Falcons and Football Team

So how do these two 1-2 teams stack up statistically heading into their contest on Sunday? Fairly evenly, actually, if you’re looking at the numbers on the season so far.

Both of these squads have fielded subpar offenses through three games, but Football Team holds the edge according to the numbers.

The Falcons’ defense has been a bit of a surprise early on, and it looks like the stronger unit in advance of this game.

Thursday’s injury report

It’s not looking good for wide receiver Russell Gage and defensive tackle Marlon Davidson, as both were absent from practice due to injury.

The defense may get a boost, however, with cornerback A.J. Terrell practicing in full for the second straight day after missing last Sunday’s game due to a concussion.

Rookie report

So how are the rooks faring through three weeks as professional football players? We’ve got a report for that.

An impetus on the ground game

Kick returner/wide receiver/running back/judicial law clerk Cordarrelle Patterson has looked like Atlanta’s best offensive weapon through three games, and free agent back Mike Davis has had his flashes on the ground, as well.

With the Falcons not doing much of any work over the air downfield at the moment, the ground game is imperative, and one they should stay committed to as the offense figures it out.
