Training camp previews

Two weeks! We’ve got two weeks until Atlanta Falcons training camp gets underway. For a team in transition — as the Falcons are — training camp carries heavier weight than it would in other seasons. Positional battles loom large, and we recently looked at the TE spot heading into camp.

Calvin Ridley to lead the league?

Wide receiver Calvin Ridley proved last year that he could hold the mantle as the Falcons’ top wideout, but can he lead the league in receiving yards this season? In the absence of Julio Jones, there are plenty of targets heading in Ridley’s direction, and many outlets have tabbed him as the front-runner to lead the league in receiving yards in 2021.

The NFL is stubborn with sacks records

The NFL is weird when it comes to records, so other outlets have taken it upon themselves to do the research to account for some discrepancies. Although the NFL still won’t recognize pre-1982 sacks, Pro Football Reference did its own number-crunching and it has shaken up the list for Atlanta Falcons all-time sacks leaders.

Forgotten Falcons: John Zook

Bouncing off of that last section — John Zook was the bookend on the defensive line with Claude Humphrey between 1969 – 1975, a pairing that registered well over 100 unregistered sacks during that time frame.
