There’s not even a head coach here yet, but the Falcons are giving the new hire some options at a thin position.

A little less than a week ago, the Atlanta Falcons worked out Montreal Alouettes wide receiver Austin Mack, a CFL all star in 2023. I speculated at the time that they were giving him a workout with an eye on making him an offseason signing, and sure enough, they’re bringing him aboard.

The Falcons don’t even have a coach yet, but wide receiver is one of the thinnest positions on the roster behind Drake London, especially with most everyone at the position on an expiring one-year deal. Mack will get a chance to compete this summer for a reserve role.

The 26-year-old went to the CFL after bouncing around a bit in the NFL, and is the latest player to join a pipeline of ex-CFLers winding up in Atlanta, including nickel cornerback Dee Alford. Last season north of the border, he managed 78 catches for 1,154 yards and four touchdowns, and he boasts solid size, physicality, and route running ability for the position. We’ll see what kind of mark he can make this year, and whether the Falcons have any other CFL signings up their sleeves.
