I have often made this claim during draft season, when fans of all 32 teams slowly talk themselves into believing that with the right selections, a team with a losing record in one season can become the next big thing in the year ahead.

That idea though, that the NFL calendar is packaged hope, still applies to the in-season schedule. One big game on Sunday leads to a build-up of hope throughout the week, culminating in another big game the following weekend.

This week, it is the time for hope in New York.

Why? Because the New York Giants, staring down the barrel of an 0-4 record and a tough stretch of games looming on the horizon, facing criticism of head coach, offensive coordinator and more, went on the road and won a game in overtime. But beyond that, it was how they won, with their quarterback looking perhaps as comfortable as ever and an offensive game plan that seemed to put all the pieces together.

Dare we say, hope is understandable in New York?
