Final Score: Rams fall to 0-3 in preseason

Red zone woes kept the Rams from their first win of the preseason

The Los Angeles Rams took on the Denver Broncos Saturday night in what would be the last game of the preseason. Though LA moved the ball well on offense, red zone woes would lead to the Rams third loss of the preseason. The final score Rams 12, Broncos 17.

First Quarter

Los Angeles went three and out on the first drive of the first quarter, though it is worth noting that the Broncos played a couple of their starters on defense. Denver turned the three and out into points of their own after a successful field goal. Perkins led his team on the following drive to the Broncos five but could not punch the ball in for six and LA would also settle for three. The quarter would end with a 54 yard field goal from the leg of Matt Gay.

Second Quarter

Though it would take a full quarter, the first touchdown of the game was scored by the home team. Starting on LA’s 42, Teddy Bridgewater led his offense down the field and threw a strike to Courtland Sutton for six. Neither team could get their offense going after the score. After three punts (two for LA and one for Denver) Michael Hoecht found success in the defensive-rushing game with a strip sack that fell into his hands. Los Angeles would continue to have difficulty in the red zone and after starting at Denver’s own 18 settled for a 30 yard field goal.

Third Quarter

The defense showed up during Denver’s first series of the third quarter and forced a three and out. Perkins again led his team to the goal line, but Jacob Harris was not able to come down with the touchdown on a lob from Perkins. Gay continued to get a lot of practice in the game and kicked his fourth field goal of the night. LA’s defense could not keep the three point lead the next Denver series when Drew Lock found tight end Austin Fort for the touchdown.

Fourth Quarter

The secondary for LA continued their turnover trend this preseason when Christian Rozeboom intercepted Drew Lock.

The Rams could not capitalize on the turnover and failed to convert a fourth down on the Denver 35. LA would get one last shot to earn their first win of the preseason with a two-minute drill orchestrated by Perkins. The offensive line would not hold up against Denver’s front who would earn a sack in the final minute of the game, along with some untimely penalties, negated any chance of last minute heroics from the Rams’ offense.
