What did the Texans find in Louisville RB Jawhar Jordan?

With the 205th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select:

Jawhar Jordan, RB – Louisville

Measurables:

  • Height: 5’ 9 1/2”
  • Weight: 193 lbs.
  • Arm: 30 1/8”
  • Hand: 8 1/2”
  • 40-Yard Dash: 4.56 seconds
  • NFL NGS Prospect Grad: 5.69 – candidate for bottom of roster or practice squad.

Awards:

  • First-team All-ACC, 2023

Jawhar Jordan is an undersized, tough running back not unlike current Houston Texans back Dameon Pierce. Shifty and smart, Jordan finished his five-year collegiate career on a high note at Louisville with 1,374 yards from scrimmage and averaging over 6.8 yards per touch. In his collegiate career, split between Syracuse and Louisville, Jordan garnered 2,690 yards from scrimmage, 19 touchdowns, and 6.4 yards per touch.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com reviews Jordan’s prospects:

Unlike most smaller backs, Jordan isn’t sudden or explosive. He can be a step slow through the line of scrimmage and isn’t going to be much of an “added yardage back” with power or wiggle. However, Jordan runs with good vision and great processing, making smart cuts and taking the most efficient routes he can. He can compete for third-down reps and has above-average talent as a kick returner. The lack of size will hurt his draft slotting, but he has a shot when he gets into a camp.

When given space to operate, Jordan can be a dangerous back. His strength in pass-protection and potential out of the backfield should not be overlooked, either. But, with his below-average size and lack of speed, it’ll be an uphill climb to getting reps on offense.

However, with his skill set, Jawhar Jordan could be a successful kick returner. Just several picks ago, Houston took LB Jamal Hill from Oregon, an undersized playmaker that’s perfect for special teams. With their final selections, it appears that Houston may be prioritizing special teams contributors for their 2024 roster.

What do you think, though? Will Jawhar Jordan become Houston’s next great kick returner, or will Dameon Pierce block him from any significant contributions? Let us know in the comments below.
