NY Jets legend Darrelle Revis blasts NFL’s Taylor Swift tweet

One former New York Jets player isn’t interested in an ongoing distraction from football

During the New York Jets’ Week 4 tilt with the Kansas City Chiefs, the NBC camera panned to Taylor Swift 17 times.

Seventeen!

“Can we just watch football?” Darrelle Revis tweeted in disgust. He echoed the sentiments of football fans everywhere.

The hype machine surrounding the relationship between Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and singer Taylor Swift has grown into a frenzy. “Swifties,” as Swift’s diehard fans are called, have taken up seats at Chiefs football games when their heroine is present.

Even the Jets’ owner, Woody Johnson, drew the ire of Jets fans by posting a picture of himself with Swift with the tweet “Yup you guessed it… we’re Swifties too.”

Interestingly, before the Kelce-Swift connection came front and center at MetLife Stadium in Week 4, there was already a link between the Jets and Swift. Aaron Rodgers is a huge Swift fan and danced to her music at MetLife during the offseason. Many other Jets players weighed in on their favorite Swift songs, but Rodgers had “too many.”

Still, while the football world has seen many narratives that are not directly related to what happens on the field, the spotlight on the Kelce-Swift development is particularly vexing. It’s evident that the sports networks are playing up the story to generate clicks and revenue. Most true football fans wish the story would just disappear. Revis headlines that group and is unafraid to say so.

Hopefully, NFL media will take the hint.
