The Carolina Panthers will be seeing another member of their defense hit the road.

As first reported by Bleacher Report NFL insider Jordan Schultz on Tuesday afternoon, safety Jeremy Chinn has agreed to terms on a deal with the Washington Commanders. Per Schultz, the 26-year-old is expected to sign a one-year deal that could be worth up to $5.1 million.

Chinn was selected by the Panthers in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft. The versatile defender would make an immediate impact in the secondary—as he recorded 117 tackles, two forced fumbles, an interception and two touchdowns en route to a second-place finish in that season’s AP Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.

After playing in at least 90 percent of the defense’s snaps in each of his first three NFL seasons, Chinn saw a considerable downtick in burn this past season. The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder never seemed to find a spot in defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero’s 3-4 scheme—which resulted in a career-low 38.7-percent snap share in 2023.

He will be joining former Panthers linebacker Frankie Luvu, who is also expected to ink a deal with the Commanders.
