George Fant will not return to the Houston Texans in 2024 after he agreed to a new deal with one of his former teams, the Seattle Seahawks.

Fant signed a two-year deal worth $14 million, according to KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson. The contract comes with $3.7 million guaranteed. Houston was reportedly interested in bringing him back before he ultimately picked Seattle.

Fant began his career in Seattle from 2016 to 2018 and started 24 games for the Seahawks. He started 36 games for the New York Jets for the following three years before Fant joined the Texans in 2023.

Fant turned into a major starter for the Texans this past season. He ended up starting 13 games in 2023 at right tackle after the injury to Tytus Howard. Fant’s veteran ability proved to be crucial in support of the Texans’ offensive ascension this past season with C.J. Stroud under center.

Without him, the Texans will need to find a suitable replacement — either in free agency, the draft or in the trade market. Howard is expected to return in 2024 and Houston has some depth at offensive tackle, but Fant’s loss means the Texans made need to add more this offseason.
