Matt Corral is giving head coach Frank Reich and the Carolina Panthers something to think about.

During his talk with reporters on Sunday afternoon, Reich was asked about what could potentially factor into keeping Corral on the 53-man roster. And even though they’re set at the first two spots with No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young and veteran Andy Dalton, the 2022 third-round pick has a few things working in his favor.

“Every decision, as we say, is multi-factorial,” Reich replied. “Premium on that position. You like to be able to develop guys. I think Matt’s done a good job and has continued to develop. So, feel good about the steps he’s taken.”

Corral has also taken the most snaps of any Panthers quarterback this preseason. Over his 69 total looks, he’s completed 24 of his 35 pass attempts for 197 yards and an interception.

While an odd man out of sorts, the 24-year-old has previously stated his desire to remain in Carolina. If he isn’t, however, a fit for the final cuts—the Panthers could look to sell off Corral to a quarterback-needy club interested in bringing him along.

But, given his less-than-stellar showings in the summer and the team’s apparent desire to develop a youngster at the premium position, Corral’s wish may be met.
