Friday open thread: Which player on the Bengals would you want on the Lions roster?

The Bengals have a nice blueprint on how to manage a rebuild.

Each week, as part of our game preview articles, I’ll be using the Question of the Day post to examine the roster of the Detroit Lions’ upcoming opponent. I’ll sort through their top players, narrowing the list based on a few key aspects (like being currently active), then present the following question to the fans base:

Which player on the Bengals would you want on the Lions roster?

In 2019, the Bengals began their rebuild by hiring a new head coach, Zac Taylor, and drafting their left tackle of the future in Jonah Williams. Sound familiar? The following season they drafted their quarterback in Joe Burrow, then grabbed him a stud receiver Ja’Maar Chase in 2021. It took two seasons, but the Bengals appear to be on the right track and have a winning 3-2 record entering this week’s game with the Lions.

Let’s take a look at the Bengals top players that would look nice in Honolulu Blue.

Joe Burrow, QB: A fearless signal-caller who is willing to put his throat body on the line to try and help his team win. With vision, touch, arm strength, and intelligence, Burrow has the mental makeup and physical talent to win games. At just 24-years-old, Burrow has the moxie and arm talent to lead the Bengals for the next decade.

Ja’Marr Chase, WR: If the Bengals opted to draft Penei Sewell, there’s a real chance Chase would be a Lion. But the Bengals decided to make their quarterback happy, reuniting him with his college, record-setting teammate. Chase’s rookie season is off to a blazing start. Through five games, Chase is averaging seven catches for 91.2 yards and a touchdown per game, and he was the NFL rookie of the month in September. He’s making the Bengals look very smart for selecting him fifth overall.

Logan Wilson, LB: A 6-foot-2, 250-pound MIKE linebacker who can cover? Yes, please. Wilson is not only a tackling machine, but he already has three interceptions through five games. A true leader, and just 25-years-old, Wilson will anchor their defense for a long time. Ideally, the Lions would like to see Derrick Barnes develop into a similar role, but if they have different plans for him, they may look to Wilson’s alma mater, Wyoming, and draft Chad Muma, who has a similar skill set.

Vonn Bell, S: The Bengals spent some valuable money on defense in free agency, but so far, Bell is arguably giving them their highest rate of return. At 26-years-old, Bell made a name for himself in New Orleans working under now Lions’ defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. He’s one of the better box safeties in the league and has shown the ability to cover this season. He is, what the Lions’ coaching staff is hoping Will Harris could be.

My choice: Joe Burrow, QB

Every guy on this list would be an incredible boost, but there is no position that impacts the game more than the quarterback, and Burrow looks like an eventual Top-10 talent. The Lions would love to land their version of Burrow in an upcoming draft and they have four first-round picks over the next two years to make that happen if a player presents himself.
