Chris Milton has hung around the NFL for five seasons because of his ability on special teams. Can Milton, technically a cornerback, earn a sixth as a member of the New York Giants?

Career to date

Milton was a special teams demon at Georgia Tech, blocking seven kicks during his four seasons with the Yellow Jackets.

Milton went undrafted but hooked on with the Indianapolis Colts in 2016. He spent three seasons in Indianapolis and two in Tennessee, and has played only 185 defensive snaps in five seasons. In the last two years with the Titans he was only on the field for four defensive snaps.

Over those five seasons he has played an even 1,000 special teams snaps.

2021 outlook

Giants coach Joe Judge is a former special teams coach, and players like Milton are ones he would naturally be drawn to. Still, with Nate Ebner likely to return to the Giants, you wonder if there would be a spot for Milton. Ebner is a special teams player and defensive back in emergencies only. On a 53-man roster, could the Giants actually carry a second player who fits the identical profile?

No matter how fond Judge is of quality special teams players, that’s hard to envision.
