Thomas’ foot injury a concern heading into key game

New York Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas, hobbled all week by a foot injury, has officially been listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. Thomas has not allowed a sack in four games, and Pro Football Focus has him graded as one of the league’s best offensive tackles thus far.

Of Thomas’s injury, Giants head coach Joe Judge said on Friday that “I think everyone at this point in the season is dealing with some kind of nick or bump.”

Four Giants will not play: Safety Jabrill Peppers and wide receivers Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton have hamstring injuries, and guard Ben Bredeson has a hand injury. Shepard and Slayton will be missing their second consecutive games.

If Thomas can’t play, Nate Solder would likely move to left tackle and Matt Peart would start on the right side. Julian Love will likely see increased snaps in place of Peppers. Without Slayton and Shepard, Kadarius Toney and John Ross took on key roles for the Giants against the New Orleans Saints.

THURSDAY

Andrew Thomas (foot) and Leonard Williams (knee) returned to practice for the New York Giants on Thursday. Thomas, though, was obviously moving with a limp as he entered the Quest Diagnostics Training Center practice field.

Thomas was listed as limited on the Thursday injury report. If Thomas can’t play vs. the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, Matt Peart would likely start at right tackle with Nate Solder moving to the left side.

Wide receivers Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton, who each have hamstring injuries, caught passes off the JUGGS machine and worked with trainers on a back field.

WEDNESDAY

Left tackle Andrew Thomas (foot), defensive end Leonard Williams (knee) and safety Jabrill Peppers (hamstring) were among six New York Giants who did not practice on Wednesday.

The others were wide receiver Sterling Shepard (hamstring), wide receiver Darius Slayton (hamstring) and tight end Kaden Smith (knee).

Peppers injured his hamstring against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Slayton and Shepard were both out of that game with their injuries. Thomas and Williams, though, are new additions to the Giants’ injury list.

Thomas, the starting left tackle, has yet to allow a sack this season. The extent of his injury is unknown. If Thomas were unavailable, Matt Peart would likely slide into the lineup Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

Williams has one sack and is the most accomplished pass rusher on a team that is just 31st in the league in pass rush win rate, per ESPN.
