There were a few notable injuries to key players in Sunday’s preseason finale

Injuries have plagued the New York Giants this offseason and there were a few more notable shake-ups in Sunday’s preseason finale against the New England Patriots.

Tight end Evan Engram left the game in the second quarter with a calf injury.

Engram made three catches for 22 yards before limping off the field and being quickly ruled out of the game. Engram was Jones’ most-targeted receiver last season and earned a Pro Bowl nomination due to his performance. This injury is a cause for concern as the Giants’ tight end position continues to look increasingly thin with the foot injury to Kyle Rudolph and the season-ending Achilles injury to Levine Toilolo.

Additionally, wide receiver Darius Slayton left the game after the first half with an ankle/foot injury and offensive lineman Ted Larsen was ruled out of the game in the fourth quarter with a knee injury.

After the game, Joe Judge did not give any insight into the status of the injured players.

But Judge did say that both Engram and Slayton themselves seemed “optimistic” about their injuries.

The following Giants players did not play in Sunday’s matchup: WR John Ross, WR Kenny Golladay, CB Adoree Jackson, RB Saquon Barkley, CB Josh Jackson, DE Elerson Smith, G Shane Lemieux, DT Danny Shelton, TE Kyle Rudolph, WR Austin Mack, and WR Kadarius Toney.

Saquon Barkley, of course, is still recovering from his knee injury. Newly-acquired tight end Kyle Rudolph has a foot injury. He returned to practice for the first time earlier this week but did not play on Sunday night.

Cornerback Adoree’ Jackson has a low ankle sprain. Fellow offseason acquisition Kenny Golladay is nursing a hamstring injury.

First-round pick Kadarius Toney has not seen a lot of practice or playing time for various reasons. The rookie is dealing with the lingering effects of COVID-19 and did not practice on Friday in what has been an up-and-down training camp at best.

Some of these injuries might be deciding factors as the Giants have to trim their roster to 53 players by Tuesday.
