Giants’ LB Ryan Anderson suspended six games by NFL

Performance Enhancing Substances violation leads to suspension

New York Giants linebacker Ryan Anderson has been suspended without pay for the first six games of the regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program on Performance Enhancing Substances.

Anderson will be eligible to participate in Sunday’s preseason finale vs. the New England Patriots.

Anderson spent four seasons as a backup linebacker with the Washington Football Team before signing with the Giants as a free agent this offseason.

The 27-year-old has had a quiet training camp and preseason. He began training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) and has barely been noticed since coming off. Anderson has three tackles, a half-sack and a quarterback hit in two preseason games.

Anderson appeared to be firmly on the roster bubble prior to the suspension being announced. We will now see if the Giants like him enough to keep him during his six-game suspension, or if he will one of the players released as the Giants trim their roster to 53 before the deadline at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Should the Giants keep Anderson, he would be eligible to be activated for the Week 7 game (Oct. 18) vs. the Los Angeles Rams.
