New York Giants news for Tuesday

Good morning, New York Giants fans!

Giants-Patriots odds: New York still Week 12 underdog after beating Washington

The New York Giants (+3.5) have not been the betting favorites in a game since beating the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2. Even coming off a win and facing the 2-8 New England Patriots, they’ll still be the underdogs.

The Giants opened as 3.5-point home underdogs at DraftKings Sportsbook. The Patriots are -185 moneyline favorites, and the over/under is set at an incredibly low 35 points.

For much of the week, a lot of the talk about the Giants’ 25-year-old baby-faced rookie free agent was about his favorite dish, the chicken parm his mother makes (pounded thin of course) and the fact that she makes his bed at home, where he’s living.

“Yeah, we heard a lot about that,’’ Tom DeVito, the owner of a plumbing company, said. “We think it’s humorous and we run with it. We’re all having fun with it.’’

Tommy DeVito: With Jersey juice, NY Giants rookie QB makes a statement | The Record

Riley Touchette traveled 425 miles, more than a six-hour drive from his native North Carolina, just to be in attendance for his first regular season game involving his beloved New York Giants. He embraced the alternate reality, bringing with him a blue Daniel Jones jersey and, with $20 worth of materials – a black marker, white masking tape and good ole’ white and blue construction paper – Touchette called an audible and went all in to reflect the circumstances with a large No. 15 and the name of the Giants’ starting quarterback now across the back.

“[DeVito] went from ‘who’s this guy?’ to ‘he’s our guy,’ and I’m here for it,” Touchette, a 20-year-old college student at Appalachian State in North Carolina said before Sunday’s 31-19 victory over the Commanders.

Giants OC Mike Kafka calls impressive game in undrafted rookie QB Tommy DeVito’s first win | New York Daily News

Mike Kafka opened eyes Sunday with an impressive showing to begin what amounts to a seven-game audition for his next job. The Giants’ offensive coordinator freed up wide-open receivers to spring several explosive plays for undrafted rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito in a 31-19 win at Washington.

In the process, Kafka outshined fellow Andy Reid protege Eric Bieniemy, the Commanders’ OC, as well.

Thibodeaux dominated his matchup against Commanders left tackle Charles Leno. According to Next Gen Stats, the second-year outside linebacker generated a season-high eight pressures and two sacks on 33 one-on-one matchups against the veteran tackle. Thibodeaux had his quickest get-off speed in a game this season (0.68 seconds), which resulted in five of his eight pressures coming in under 2.5 seconds.

Jason Pinnock Reveals What His Father Said After Dropped Interception | Sports Illustrated

Pinnock, the third-year safety, knew he would have a message from his father, Louis, about his blown opportunity in the Giants’ 31-19 win over the Washington Commanders Sunday in which he dropped an interception that was right in his hands. Sure enough, he did.

“He just said, ‘It’s like you only like the hard ones.’ He’s going to get on me all the time; that’s him,” Pinnock said Monday via video call. “It was just like, you’ve got to move on; glad you didn’t let it pile into other negative plays. That’s the biggest thing. But got to catch the ones that come to you. Those are the free ones.”

Giants’ Deonte Banks rips Washington, Terry McLaurin after Week 11 victory | CBSSports.com

Commanders brass wasn’t Banks’ only target after Sunday’s game, however. The rookie, who logged three tackles in New York’s 31-19 win, also alluded to Washington’s No. 1 wide receiver, Terry McLaurin, who managed just 43 yards on the day.

“I’m just trying to figure out, though, did 17 play today?” Banks said on Instagram. “That’s all I wanna know. Did he play today? Did he play? I just wanna know if he played.”

Carl Banks calls out Giants’ Deonte Banks for wild Commanders tirade | New York Post

After a big division win over the Washington Commanders, Giants legend Carl Banks wants rookie Giants cornerback Deonte Banks to leave the chirping to the birds this week.

“Love the 1 you with,” Carl tweeted in response to Deonte’s rant. “#BeGiant Save that Sh%t for Thanksgiving dinner, with the fam, not the social media.”

BT: Giants win was more important than draft positioning | WFAN.com

“Yesterday’s win is more important than draft slot,” BT said. “I understand the opposition to that, but it was so ugly, so off the rails, too many weeks when they weren’t even competitive, I think they needed to stabilize things to change the narrative. I get the pushback, you want to draft at one, two, or three to get a quarterback, understood…but the win, given recent events, should supersede draft position.”

New York Giants fan survey: Should Brian Daboll, Joe Schoen return in 2024? | The Athletic

Though there are still six games left in the season and plenty of storylines to keep tabs on through January, the focus shifts to the future. Are Daboll and Schoen the right leaders to guide this team back to contention? Should Jones still be thought of as the franchise’s answer at quarterback? What should the Giants do with what looks to be one of the top picks in the upcoming draft?

One of the biggest surprises of the weekend was the Giants defeating the Commanders. While it was a big win for the Giants, it also took them out of the Williams and Maye sweepstakes for now. Anyway you look at it, the Giants should and likely will use their top-five pick on their next franchise quarterback. Daniel Jones is likely to miss a good portion of the 2024 season recovering from a torn ACL and has yet to show he’s the long-term answer, despite receiving a rather large contract last offseason.

Patriots OC Bill O’Brien hints practice will be guide for QB call | ESPN.com

“Mac took the first-team reps. Bailey rotated in there. Will Grier rotated in there,” O’Brien said about the one practice held last week. “One of the reasons I really enjoy coaching here is you have to earn it on the practice field. You have to strive for perfection on the practice field and then hopefully that leads to good execution in the games. Right now, we haven’t had consistent enough execution in the games.”
