New York Giants headlines for Thursday

Good morning, New York Giants fans!

Joe Judge’s preseason plan; Giants’ Daniel Jones to sit vs. Jets – Giants.com
With roster cuts looming, the Giants will treat this like the final preseason game and give more bench players a chance to shine.

“We look at it from a standpoint of trying to evaluate everybody, let everyone be out there and function. So, if you’re trying to evaluate a receiver, the offensive line blocking for the quarterback will get evaluated. Trying to evaluate running backs, whether that be the receivers getting in blocks on the safeties, then cutting off the corners. Everyone has to function as a team. You do consider that in terms of when you put certain players together or who’s having a little chemistry together in practice, or maybe certain units that haven’t clicked quite yet. You want to kind of keep yourself out of a position where you can’t evaluate a player properly on the field. The ultimate goal is to evaluate our players.”

Giants need to find way to keep Jabrill Peppers – NY Post

There will be other marquee mouths to feed following this season for general manager Dave Gettleman and coach Joe Judge, not the least of whose belongs to Saquon Barkley, with Daniel Jones eying a pot of gold at the end of the Big Blue rainbow, and a squeezed salary cap dilemma in 2022 ($1,748,533 in space as of now).

Peppers will be playing on his fifth-year option this season and the safety room is crowded with Logan Ryan and 2020 second-rounder Xavier McKinney … and I say to hell with any numbers game.

Figure out a way to keep this guy.

How many boxes does a guy have to check?

Doesn’t turn 26 until October. Check.

Returns punts. Check.

Jersey Guy who loves the Giants. Check.

9 predictions for the 2021 NFL rookie class – PFF

AZEEZ OJULARI IS THE ONLY ROOKIE EDGE DEFENDER WITH A 70.0-PLUS PASS-RUSH GRADE

This rookie edge class is full of raw players who ooze potential because of their physical tools. Yet, many who were taken early on in the 2021 NFL Draft will take some time to get acclimated.

Ojulari is decidedly different than the rest. He could make a dent for the New York Giants sooner than anyone else in his class despite not having the size or power of some of the Day 1 prospects. He is an advanced pass-rusher who put up monster production numbers in the SEC; his timing and pass-rush plan paired with his speed, length and cornering ability make him a force to be reckoned with. The Georgia product earned a 91.7 pass-rush grade in 2020, second among all FBS edge defenders.
