Giants reportedly gave Kubas $270K guarantee

Jake Kubas, one of the undrafted free agents signed by the New York Giants, was a three-year starter at right guard for North Dakota State University.

Kubas was named first-team Stats Perform FCS All-America, second-team Phil Steele FCS All-America, and third-team Associated Press FCS All-America in 2023. He is 6-foot-3⅞, 308 pounds.

A Giants’ offensive line coach reportedly ran the offensive line workouts at the school’s Pro Day. Kubas did not earn an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine.

“I think anytime you can get in front of an assistant O-Line coach, an O-line coach, an area scout or whatever it may be, and work out in front of them… I think it’s valuable. Especially being an FCS school, “Kubas said at the Pro Day. “So, it is big anytime I can get in front of somebody in an NFL organization to work out.”

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com offered this scouting report on Kubas:

Rock-steady full-time starter over the last three seasons. Kubas is smaller than NFL teams might like from a frame perspective and it would be beneficial if he learned to snap. He’s technically sound, with inside hands and good lower-body bend. He’s lightning quick up to the second level and as a pulling guard. Kubas could struggle to handle the step up in size and power across from him as both a run and pass blocker. His sudden feet and athleticism are both impressive in protection, but he’s too easily conned out of his spot by moving pieces and appears to lack instincts in that regard. He could compete for a spot with a zone-heavy team.

The Giants reportedly gave Kubas $270,000 guaranteed, the largest amount of any undrafted free agent they have signed. Dan Duggan, who reported the amount, wrote:

A practice squad salary for the full season is $225K. The Giants guaranteed Kubas $240K in salary plus a $30K signing bonus. Strong indication that they expect him to at least land on their P-squad (although with offsets, they’d only have $45K in dead money if they cut him and he signs with another team’s PS).
