Giants rule five players out for Monday night

Running back Saquon Barkley (ankle) and wide receiver Kenny Golladay knee will miss their third consecutive games for the New York Giants this week. Both have been ruled out of Monday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Rookie wide receiver Kadarius Toney (ankle) is questionable.

The Giants will also be without starting edge defender Lorenzo Carter (ankle), and key special teams players Carter Coughlin and Nate Ebner, both of whom also have ankle injuries.

Giants coach Joe Judge did not commit to Toney playing on Monday, but he will be with the team.

“The plan is to bring him on the trip and see where he’s at, but he moved around well enough yesterday that we plan on taking him on the trip,” Judge said on Saturday.

FRIDAY

Kadarius Toney was a limited participant in practice on Friday for the New York Giants, a sign that Toney might be able to play Monday against the Kansas City Chiefs after sitting out last Sunday’s game vs. Carolina with an ankle injury.

Running back Saquon Barkley (ankle) and wide receiver Kenny Golladay (knee) did not practice. They could both be headed toward missing a third straight game.

Toney, who has apparently learned the Joe Judge creed of players don’t discuss injuries, said only that he is “feeling pretty good” and that he “was able to do enough” in practice.

Aaron Robinson ready?

Rookie cornerback Aaron Robinson might make his NFL debut on Monday. Robinson, on PUP all season with a core injury, began practicing last week. Judge indicated Friday that the third-round pick could be added to the roster this week.

“There’s a chance. He practiced with us last week. He was out there with us yesterday doing a lot more. He’s moving well,” Judge said. “We’ll see where it goes these next couple days. Obviously, we’ve got (defensive back) J.R. (Reed) on the roster now and some other guys. We’ll see how he kind of picks up the scheme stuff, but there is a chance.”

Carter Coughlin headed to IR?

Carter Coughlin apparently suffered a serious ankle injury in practice this week.

Coughlin leads the Giants with 158 special teams snaps played this season. Nate Ebner, tied with Keion Crossen for second on the team in special teams snaps played, is also dealing with an ankle injury.

THURSDAY

New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard admitted on Thursday that the hamstring injury that kept him out of Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers was not the same hamstring injury that kept him out of two previous games. This one, he said, was to the opposite leg.

Shepard told media that he tweaked the hamstring last week while running a route in practice. He said he is “feeling a lot better.” He also told reporters that he is “super confident” he will play Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Per reports from media at practice, Shepard is the only one of the Giants’ injured group of playmakers who did on-field work on Thursday. Wide receivers Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney, along with running back Saquon Barkley, worked on the side with the training staff.

WEDNESDAY

Will any of the New York Giants’ injured quartet of star playmakers — wide receivers Kadarius Toney, Sterling Shepard and Kenny Golladay, along with running back Saquon Barkley — be in the lineup on Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs? Giants’ head coach Joe Judge was non-committal about that on Wednesday as the Giants held a light practice at Quest Diagnostics Training Center.

“I would say that being a Monday night game, there’s a little bit more of a window of time. They’ve all made progress. We’re going to move them around today (Wednesday),” Judge said. “Tomorrow, we’ll probably have a much better idea in terms of going into the game with them (and) what they’re going to look like.

“I wouldn’t say anything that happens today or tomorrow would rule them out or guarantee them at the game, but today should give us a little bit of an insight to it and then really tomorrow in terms of how much they can do individually, how much they can do in some team periods, what are they able to do when they’re out there.”

Barkley (ankle) and Golladay (knee) have missed two games. Toney (ankle) has missed one. Shepard (hamstring) has missed three of the last four.

“There’s different timetables for all of these guys. I’m not going to go ahead and give a ‘This guy’s further ahead,’ “ Judge said. “With these injuries, it sounds like day by day different guys are at different points and some days it sounds like one guy is further along than another guy. What we ask from the trainers is just give us accurate information and let us know so we can plan accordingly.”

Shepard worked out briefly prior to the Week 7 game against Carolina before the Giants decided not to activate him for that game.

“It was at a point that he wasn’t going to be able to go out there in the game and that we felt good enough that he was going to go out there and stay,” Judge said. “Shep’s a tough dude. I’m just telling you, if he had to duct tape the leg back on, he would’ve gone out there and done it, so we had to kind of help make the decision for him because we know he’s going to push through whatever it is.”

MONDAY

New York Giants safety Jabrill Peppers is dealing with both knee and ankle injuries coming out of Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.

Peppers left the game after taking a hit on a third-quarter punt return. He was able to leave the field without assistance, but was obviously hobbled. Peppers missed the Giants’ Week 5 game against the Dallas Cowboys with a hamstring injury.

Coach Joe Judge said on Monday afternoon that Peppers was visiting with doctors to further evaluate his injuries.

The Giants’ next game is Monday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 2, next Tuesday. Peppers, a free agent as the end of the season, has been the subject of trade speculation.

Judge also said he would not know until later in the week if Saquon Barkley (ankle), Kenny Golladay (knee) and Kadarius Toney (ankle) would be able to play against the Chiefs. Barkley and Golladay have missed the last two games. Toney has missed one.
