What you need to know to watch Sunday’s game

A lot has changed since quarterback Tyrod Taylor led the New York Giants to a 14-7 victory over the Washington Commanders in Week 7.

Taylor is on injured reserve with a ribs injury. Daniel Jones is out for the season with a torn ACL. And the Giants have lost three straight games, two of them in blowout fashion.

Sunday will mark quarterback Tommy Devito’s second NFL start. The Giants will have to find some way to function on offense with Devito, though the revolving door at quarterback hasn’t made much difference in the box score. The team is scoring 11.8 points per game, which puts them on pace to be one of the worst offenses in NFL history.

The Commanders have struggled since Week 7 as well. Their offense has seemingly recovered, having scored at least 20 points in each of their last three games. But those matchups still resulted in two losses and a close win over the lowly New England Patriots.

However, the quarterback position has not been an issue like it is for the Giants. Sam Howell has 1,034 passing yards and eight touchdown passes in his last three games. He’s “only” taken seven sacks in those three games, which is a relative improvement from the start of the year.

At 4-6, the Commanders likely need a win Sunday to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
