Someone has to get a win

No one expected the New York Giants and New England Patriots to have only five wins between them ahead of their Week 12 matchup. Fewer expected either team to be on the receiving end of so many blowout losses.

Both teams have lost two games this year by more than 30 points as injuries and disappointing offenses have resulted in lost seasons. Something will have to give this Sunday afternoon.

The Patriots are coming off their bye week and are on a three-game losing streak. They only have two wins this season, but those came against the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills — who both beat the Giants this year. The Patriots lost to the Washington Commanders, who the Giants beat twice.

Quarterback Mac Jones been awful for the Patriots. He has only two games with more than 230 passing yards, likely because he’s been benched in the fourth quarter several times. He’s thrown as many touchdown passes as interceptions (10). As of Saturday night, head coach Bill Belichick still has not officially announced who will start at quarterback for New England.

The Giants snapped a three-game losing streak with a 31-19 victory over the Washington Commanders last Sunday. Quarterback Tommy Devito threw three touchdown passes in that game, meaning expectations will be at least slightly higher for the undrafted rookie in his third career start.

Sunday’s game will also likely be crucial in determining the 2024 draft order. Currently, the Patriots hold the No. 3 pick and the Giants are at No. 5. Both teams could be in the market for a quarterback.

The Patriots have won six of their last seven regular season games against the Giants. Of course, the Giants won two Super Bowl matchups in that span.
