This…this actually makes a bit of sense.

The one good thing about losing, if there can be any good thing about it, is that there’s usually another chance coming up to get the win and put the loss in the rearview. It’s a blip on the radar, usually.

Sometimes the losses are far more serious, obviously; playoffs, championship losses, etc. but most regular season games, the loss is less severe. Today’s loss hurt, but at least it was only a regular season game. There are still plenty of opportunities for the Houston Texans to come back and rip the division away from the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the team is going to be in every game they play from here on out.

It’s like famous soccer coach Ted Lasso said, we need to be like goldfish. Goldfish memories, allegedly, are supposed to only remember things for a few seconds and immediately forget them. Let’s forget this loss and put that pain into the Denver Broncos; assuming the officiating will let us.

One way to get past the game (segues!) is by getting a look at the Texans’ early odds for next weeks game against the Broncos.

So let’s take a look at those opening odds from DraftKings.

Opening Odds for Week 13

Points

FAVORED: Houston Texans (-2.5)
UNDERDOG: Denver Broncos (+2.5)

Note: For those of you who aren’t aware of the meaning, the points are a handicap system. So in this case, imagine the game and before the kickoff even happens, someone has spotted the Broncos 2.5 points.

So basically a point line, in this case, is giving the Broncos a 2.5-0 head start. And the Texans have to win by at least three points to beat the spread. If they beat the Broncos by less than three points, the Broncos win the bet. Since the line is 2.5 points, there’s no possibility for a push, or tie)

Over/Under: 45

Note: This one is pretty straightforward. You decide whether you think the total combined score will be more or less than 45 points.

Moneyline:

Houston Texans (-142)
Denver Broncos (+120)

Note: This one is a little more complicated. The best way to imagine it is if you have $100 to bet initially. If you bet your $100 on the Broncoss and they win the game, you get $220 (your initial $100, plus the $120 from the win). If you take the Texans moneyline, you have to bet $142 to win $100 for a total of $242 ($142 initial bet, plus the $100 you get from the win).
