B/R predicts big year for Colts’ Carson Wentz

There are plenty of question marks surrounding the outlook of Indianapolis Colts new quarterback Carson Wentz, but one writer at Bleacher Report is predicting big things for the 28-year-old.

In predicting the 2021 season for prove-it quarterbacks, Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report is pretty bullish on the upcoming campaign for Wentz.

“Wentz will play under head coach Frank Reich, who served as his offensive coordinator between the 2016 and 2017 terms, so he doesn’t have to worry about learning an unfamiliar system. The Colts are already excited about the signal-caller’s connection with wideout T.Y. Hilton. Second-year wideout Michael Pittman Jr. could take a leap as the big-bodied (6’4”, 223 lbs) “X” receiver.

When you consider a solid Colts offensive line that returns four starters is part of Wentz’s quality supporting cast, he should bounce back in 2021.

Projection: Wentz throws for 30-plus touchdowns and 4,000-plus yards while solidifying his future with the Colts.”

That would be a big year for Wentz. Only one time has he gone over 30 touchdowns and 4,000 passing yards (2017). And while raw stats don’t tell the whole picture, the Colts would likely be pleased if his final line looked something like that.

I currently have Wentz projected for 4,341 passing yards and 27 touchdown passes if he plays the full 17-game season. That might change a bit as the season gets closer but during the month of July, that’s currently where I have Wentz.

It shouldn’t be too much of a transition for Wentz when it comes to the passing game. The philosophies are likely the same from his time in Philly. It just depends on how quickly he can get the terminology down.

But if Wentz gives the Colts that kind of raw stat line, it is likely that they are one of the top teams in the AFC.
