The Indianapolis Colts announced Monday that defensive tackle Rob Windsor was placed on the injured reserve list and will be out for the entire 2021 season. Now, we know the reason.

General manager Chris Ballard said in his training camp press conference with the media on Monday that Windsor suffered a hip injury and the severity of it will keep him off the field in 2021.

“He had a hip that was bothering him during the offseason, and he ended up having to get that fixed. So, it’s going to cost him the year,” Ballard said.

Windsor was a sixth-round pick (No. 193 overall) with the Colts in the 2020 draft. He spent the majority of his rookie season on the practice squad outside of playing nine snaps on defense and two on special teams.

Windsor faces an uphill battle to make an impact when he returns in 2022 given the depth the Colts have on the interior defensive line. He’ll spend the season rehabbing in hopes of competing for a roster spot in a year’s time.
