Back in the draft the Titans traded up in the 4th round to draft Dez Fitzpatrick. They send picks 126, 166 and 232 to the Panthers to move up to 109 and pick Fitzpatrick. Jon Robinson obviously saw something in the rookie receiver to make that move. Was it just the week of practice at the Senior Bowl? Maybe.

Things have not started out well for Fitzpatrick in Tennessee. Mike Vrabel was asked on Saturday what Fitzpatrick needed to do to get more snaps in the next preseason game (he didn’t get on the field in the first half Friday night). Vrabel said the receiver would need to show “a lot more” before earning more snaps.

Then there was the report that Fitzpatrick dropped 3 passes right in front of Robinson on Sunday at practice:

So not a great start for Fitzpatrick. Then you add in the fact that the other receivers on the roster, guys like Chester Rogers, Marcus Johnson and Racey McMath, who was taken in the 6th round, have shown more in practices than Fitzpatrick. Does that mean Dez is in jeopardy of not making the roster?

I think it is too early to make that jump. He isn’t a lock to make the roster by any means, but it also isn’t a lock that he will make it. If Fitzpatrick goes down to Tampa and makes some plays in the practices against the Buccaneers the conversation will completely flip.

There is still a lot of time between now and the final cuts.
