Skeptical cynicism is understandable, but there is a lot to be excited for with the Broncos

It’s funny how certain things prompt emotions. With the start of training camp for the Denver Broncos, I planned on being skeptical. My cynicism meter was going to go through the roof. I wasn’t gonna whine and moan, but I was definitely not going to get excited.

Knowing that a QB battle was eminent, and feeling a certain sense of déjà vu, I tried to brush aside any amount of giddiness that might creep in. As I told Ian St. Clair on the MHR Radio Podcast, I just couldn’t do it.

Every practice brings us closer to the start of the season, and I am starting to get hyped up. Reports about whether Drew Lock or Teddy Bridgewater “won” the day may not sway me one way or the other, but everything else points toward a fun season.

While I may not subscribe to the notion that QBs can win the day, I do like that Lock and Bridgewater have both looked good. They seem to be improving each day. With a little continuity for Lock, and Teddy being steady, the offense can be good enough.

Outside of the QB battle, there are several areas that continue to be bright spots. Both sides of the football are filled with potential.

It sounds like Patrick Surtain II is the real deal. He is a problem for almost everyone on offense. It seems like the only player who is being shut down by PS2 is Jerry Jeudy. While Courtland Sutton is still WR1, it seems like Jeudy is poised to take ownership of that title soon.

I don’t want to get wrapped up in the excitement of just a bunch of padless practices. I know that the last few seasons have been unfulfilling. Still, I can’t help but look at the talent on this team and get a little giddy at the prospects.

Hopefully, it continues past Week 1 of the regular season.
