Many Jacksonville Jaguars fans have been anticipating CJ Henderson’s return to the practice field, and on Saturday, they could get their wish. The 2020 first-round pick was activated off the team’s Reserve/COVID-19 list Friday afternoon, as was quarterback CJ Beathard.

The Jags also announced that safety Daniel Thomas would be placed on Reserve/COVID-19 and made the signing of receiver Tavon Austin official.

Henderson will be seeing the field for his first training camp session of 2021 after spending the offseason, minicamp and organized team activity periods recovering from labrum surgery. Prior to his shoulder procedure, he was able to take the field for eight regular season games (all starts) as a rookie and was able to garner 26 combined tackles, six pass breakups, and a pick. Unfortunately, his season was cut short, though, a he had to go on injured reserve after the Jags’ Week 10 game against Green Bay.

Beathard, who is entering his third season, joined the Jags back in March. He was able to take the field in the early stages of camp, but went on Reserve/COVID-19 on Aug. 2.

Lastly, Thomas is heading into his second year after being drafted last season in the fifth-round out of Auburn. Of all the aforementioned players, this training camp period may be the most important for him because there is great competition at safety. With players like Andre Cisco, Jarrod Wilson, and Rayshawn Jenkins clearly the top-3 safety options on the team, only one or two spots could be left at the position on the final roster. That said, if Thomas isn’t on the Reserve/COVID-19 list too long, he’ll have a decent amount of time to make his case to make the team.

The Reserve/COVID-19 list was created last season after the coronavirus pandemic started. The list is one made for players to be put on if they test positive for COVID-19, or were exposed to someone who has tested positive.
