Jaguars CB CJ Henderson officially activated from reserve/COVID-19 list

After spending all of training camp on the reserve/COVID-19 list, CJ Henderson set to finally return.
It appears as if CJ Henderson could be returning to the Jaguars’ practice fields soon after the team announced the second-year cornerback would be officially taken off of the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list, and added to the active roster.
Quarterback CJ Beathard was also activated from the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list and was seen practicing on the field on Friday. Henderson was not present on the practice field.
Second-year safety Daniel Thomas was placed on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list.
Henderson, drafted with the ninth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has often been expected to be one of the cornerstone players for the Jacksonville defense.
While the team spent the 33rd overall pick in this year’s draft on cornerback Tyson Campbell, Henderson was fully expected to be one of the team’s starting cornerbacks.
Now, it appears, the Jaguars CB is ready to be back in action, something that Jaguars defensive coordinator Joe Cullen says will take some time to get up to speed considering how much time he’s missed.
“You know he had the shoulder, he had COVID, so I mean it’s acclimation time so it’s going to take a while,” Cullen said after practice on Friday. “Mentally, he is in all the meetings and like anybody when you come out on the field, it’s a process and the rookies have had three weeks so it will be a process.”
The Jaguars will hope that Henderson can answer the call sooner rather than later. Head coach Urban Meyer mentioned on Wednesday that the young cornerback was “really talented,” but ultimately doesn’t know much beyond his past work considering he’s yet to see him practice in drills on the practice field.
For now, the Jaguars have deployed Shaquill Griffin, Campbell and Sidney Jones as the three primary cornerbacks with Jones and Griffin as the boundary players. Campbell has been tasked with both inside and outside at nickel and cornerback.
